.CDR to .AI with Fill Pattern???

I use Corel Draw X6 for the majority of my design work. The shop who does my printing for me requests Illustrator files. Everything has been going well until now, when I attempt to have a carbon fiber fill pattern. It doesn't seem to want to export.

My workaround has been to convert the fill pattern to a bitmap, 120dpi, CMYK. This creates a very, very large file though, when I save/export to Illustrator.

Is there a better way to do this???

Are you sure you're exporting to the printer's preferred version of Illustrator (i.e., CS whatever)? I did a quick test and it opened fine in Illustrator as long as the correct version was exported.

Whether they prefer .ai or not a .pdf should work for them as well. I'd try that if the .ai version specification does not resolve the issue.
