  1. Roland VG to VG2 Firmware removes service mode, end user access deleted??

Funny you should use VW as an example. Try installing a new ECU in your VW/Audi vehicle without taking it to a dealer. They locked down access to the unlock codes in 2003, relegating them to authorized dealerships’ diagnostics machines that connect directly to the mothership. Even the dealership...
  2. News So Long Latex 792 and LX610 Inks...

You realize that there are bags inside those big plastic cartridges, right? Roland simply ditched the plastic box.
  3. Need Help Navy Coat of Arms for USS Chandler

Use of most military heraldry is heavily restricted by the DoD and is, in fact, not public domain. https://dod.defense.gov/Portals/1/Documents/Trademarks/DOD%20Guide%20about%20use%20of%20seals%20logos%20insignia%20medals-16%20Oct%2015F.PDF
  4. Interesting..

In recent years, Microsoft doesn’t exactly have a reputation for letting you keep versions/builds that are old and proven.
  5. Interesting..

If the Microsoft development team were to get turned loose on Adobe software, it would destroy creative software as we know it. Photoshop, for instance, never really changes, but rather adds functionality and features with each new version. Microsoft Word, on the other hand, has changed...
  6. What the #$&% is up with new notebook computers in 2019?

True. My comment was more aimed at pointing out the odd “I want to do professional level stuff, but I unconditionally refuse to do it with a professional level computer!” attitude. It’s just odd that an individual, who claims to want exactly what workstation grade laptops were created for...
  7. What the #$&% is up with new notebook computers in 2019?

That’s not true at all. Non-workstation graphics cards don’t support OpenGL, which is what “mainstream graphics applications” use for GPU acceleration. A whiz-bang multi-monotor setup running on a high end GTX Card doesn’t do anything to accelerate your Adobe software that a basic built in card...
  8. What the #$&% is up with new notebook computers in 2019?

Like I said in my previous comment, you need to be shopping in the mobile workstation category, as in Dell’s Precision line and not the XPS. What you want is out there, but the cost of admission is steep. Adobe software takes advantage of the Quadro based GPUs in those machines, and they do make...
  9. Union Sign Shops? Strikes? Whats the difference?

My experience with unions is they’re next in line behind Uncle Sam to collect their cut from your check come payday, and when you need them, they disappear faster than a lawyer with dirt on the Clintons.
  10. Bad leadership

    Start drinking.
  11. What the #$&% is up with new notebook computers in 2019?

64GB is massive overkill for graphics apps. I actually have 64GB in my desktop workstation, and it rarely uses more than a fourth of that with Photoshop, Illustrator, Flexi, Versaworks and three or four web browser windows running at the same time. You aren’t looking for a laptop you’ll find on...
  12. Is cut lettering dying?

I remember doing that sort of work with cut vinyl 20+ years ago. A lot of times, there was as much paint as there was vinyl involved to get the desired look. All stuff that is way easier to print these days.
  13. Is cut lettering dying?

I don’t think it’s dying so much as it’s evolving. Cut lettering will always have its place.
  14. Can our Roland VS 640 print on Mat Board

Ink is probably going to bleed like mad. I’m not sure about the thickness. I’ve printed on poster board with a Roland, and even after reducing the amount of ink the printer was laying down, it had really bad edge bleed. In my case, it was just lettering that was supposed to look hand written...
