  1. Finishing HDU

We use automotive primer and paints. We spray the panel with a good high fill automotive primer sand with a DA. Also make sure to prime the back to avoid warping. This is caused by primer/paint shrinking during the curing process. Priming the back will counteract this. Fill any pin holes left...
  2. Hand carved, painted sign.

The sign is about 3" thick total. The shelf layer is 1 1/2" HDU. Then I added various thickness up to another 1 1/2".
  3. Carved Bear Sign

JDB- Now that you point that out, I agree. I should have used the negative space created by the lower case letters from the top line of copy as a guide for the bottom line. Instead I centered the copy in the panel. I guess I just got in one of those "can't see the forest for the trees"...
  4. Carved Bear Sign

The panel is 1/2" MDO painted with One Shot enamel. I carved the bear and limb from 15 LB. Sign Foam. The paint on the bear and limb are flat latex paint. The overal sign is 2' X 3'. The bear and limb are aprox. 3" thick at max depth.
  5. Another 4 axis rout test.

That is Killer! How long did it take to machine? :cool1:
  6. CNC routing

You still have to seperate the coroplast from the parts you cut and clean the glue residue off. Doesn't that really cancel out the time you spend sanding bridges? And as far as the vacuum table, get one as soon as you can. Your operator will love you for it! And over time your check book will...
  7. Coke art

John, Here are two Coke pages from Brands of the World. I have used some files from them for projects for my kids. http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/search/113771358/
  8. Hand carved, painted sign.

Here is a sign I was hired to do. It was for the customers wife as a birthday present. It is mounted on her potting shed. I cut the letters and main shelf shape out of HDU on the Multicam CNC table. Then carved the detail in the letters and main body. The applied pieces I cut on the band...
  9. Thinking about it.....

I have a degree in drafting and illustration. My uncle was an old time sign guy/commersial artist. I learned alot from my uncle working in the sign business. I was a sponge reading everything I could about the sign business. You need some kind of art back ground or just have a real sincere...
  10. Illy questions on aligning objects

Did you still have to use a step ladder??:ROFLMAO:
  11. push-thru Corian letters

I have done some Corian signage. And two custom counter tops. One was a bathroom countertop that I routed an ivy/vine motife in then painted it gold. The other was for a local BBQ house. I prismatic carved the copy and logos. Then the counter people used the resin from a contrasting color to...
  12. dragon from magic sculpt

Didn't realize I posted a confusing coment??? He was wonder about what to carve to put on the other side of his store front to balance it out. I suggested another dragon, but a different style, like a blue aquatic dragon, Or white ice dragon. Use your imagination!:banghead:
  13. Need vinyl cut - my cutter to small

  14. Need vinyl cut - my cutter to small

And that is why it is best to have started with nothing but your skill and hands! I remember back when I first started, cutting sandblast stencil by hand with an exacto knife. And hand lettering Coroplast in my apartment in winter in Buffalo, NY. And I especially remember having to drape a wet...
