    Also make sure the ink isn't expired or near expiry. If that is good and you've changed the dampers, caps, wipers I would suspect the head may be getting to end of life, when was the last time it was replaced?

    Try using an eraser or abrasive material to polish up the contacts on the chip and reinsert, if that doesn't work you may have damaged the IC board that recognizes the chip and sends the signal to the printer.

    If you get Roland VW to start, you should be able to go to Edit>Preferences>Roland@RNet and have it check for updates. You may have to restart VW for it to automatically check.

    Have you tried downloading them from the Roland Profile Center? The printer comes with all the generic profiles and then all the Roland custom profiles (i.e. MCVP, GCVP, etc...) and other media manufacturers profiles are online on there.

    There are a few good 3rd party inks out there.
