Hiya Craig!!! Don't get on Signs101 much. How have ya been? I just got married in Nov. to a gal that is a better artist than me! I'm still living in Missouri, and don't do too many window splashes any more. Health & happiness to you in 2012, my friend! ~Jonathan Stone jstonedesigns@sbcglobal.net
  2. Window Splash Paint?

Randy... I use Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 Acrylic latex primer as a base coat, then an oil based color such as one-shot poster, Day-Glo fluorescent, etc. "Old Paint" didn't specify, but if you use the solvent-based Kilz primer, you need to give it ample drying time before using an oil-based color on...
  3. Font Help Please

Looks like Goudy or Baskerville, with a unique "O" & "A"
  4. How to do die-cut on foamboard?

I've used a knife blade made for a jigsaw with success.
  5. First Time Sign Builder

Definately DiBond over Alumalite. I've seen Alumalite (& Econolite) delaminate on the edges, and it dents twice as easy as DiBond. I'd use 1/2" MDO if the stork is cut out. Prime the edges good and finish coat with OneShot enamel. If it's a painted image it will be easy to touch up every six...
  6. First Time Sign Builder

Krylon Fusion spray paint should adhere okay. I've put MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) sparingly in OneShot paints and lettered on PVC with reasonable success, however, with signs that will be moved fairly often and transported, vinyl would probably work best.
  7. Please ID font

    Aachen BT
  8. Stone in my shoe.

You could do as one sign guy does...(no names mentioned).... He has a 3 sets of bogus sign company magnetics he uses in different areas when he installs illegally. If I remember correctly they are "ABC Sign Co.", "ACME Sign Co." and "SIGNS & SH*T". Although this is a true story, I'm not...
  9. Another Font ID please

Definately a one of a kind, hand-created logo. I've seen a similar script in Sign DNA fonts, and I'm sure there's something available here on Signs101. You might be able to work with Handel Gothic for the word "transmissions". Best of success!
  10. Laboring on Labor Day - what y'all doing??

Working on a 4' X 10' aluminum sign for a welding shop. Built the frame yesterday afternoon, and painting in the blended logo today. We're also doing respite care for another foster family this holiday weekend. Counting our eight (four adopted, four foster) and their four, we have a dozen...
  11. need help with this font

Hmmm, reminds me of a cartoon by Bob Parsons in SignCraft years ago. The foreman came in to the shop and said "Sorry Joe, we're going to have to let you go...the office gal just digitized your Casual". It was a true expression of the changing times in the sign industry. Because window...
  12. Wall Easel anyone?

I build mine with a 2" X 2" wooden frame with 2 upright supports (each one 32" in from either side), a straight piece of #2 pine 1" X 4" X 96" for the bottom ledge. I make 4 - 6" triangles out of scrap MDO and screw onto the back of the frame to keep it square. I've always used Homasote for the...
  13. Gosh, 2 in one day!

    "Uppercase Polka"? ( j/k )
  14. Signs for the mid-west

Welcome from near Springfield, MO! I lettered the "Sun Loans" window splash on West 7th there in Joplin, as well as a small computer store downtown about six weeks ago.
