  1. install sign post in concrete or asphalt

If you're in a cold area with the asphalt you can heat it up with blow torch first and then pound through. Save some time and it looks cleaner. For concrete I agree with canuck, the bases are a good way to go. For concrete it's always smart to know if there is anything structural going on...
  2. Hey redheads, Thursday, November 5 is YOUR day!

As a redhead, I've also heard that in the dark ages people thought redheads were witches (probably as outside groups invaded Gaul lands). The sure fire test was to throw them in water. If the floated they were witches and had to be killed. If they didn't...
  3. Time for a new proof sheet - any tips?

Thank you! It's interesting how you put pricing in the template. I think for some job categories that may be a really good idea.
  4. Time for a new proof sheet - any tips?

anywhere you can point me to start learning about shell scripts? Probably not for the immediate change but I like that idea.
  5. Time for a new proof sheet - any tips?

Hi All, It's time we put together a new proof form. Wondering if anyone has best practice suggestions now that it's (almost) 2021 or is willing to share what they use for us to copy and paste content. We are thinking a simple CS doc that we save as .jpg or locked .pdfs. Suggestions on...
  6. Help Identifying Large Old Channel Letter Font

In case it's helpful, in past situations like this we have auto-vectored from things like your photo, then cleaned up by hand in order to make new artwork that can be output. Time consuming but sometimes its the only way...
  7. Are the cheap vinyl cutters worth it?

You'll have to buy the vinyl, transfer tape, make space, cleaning supplies for the dumpsters and truck...and then when you go back 9 months later the vinyl and transfer tape will not be as pliable and you may have to replace it. Shelf life is not forever. Put a dollar value on your time...
  8. Latex 360 printing on Briteline 80/20 "vertical banding"

you might need to clean/replace your encoder strip. if it doesn't register a dot on the strip it will not spit ink.
  9. Talk about "upping" your game...

Now that waterjet machine I like. thanks for linking to it.
  10. Talk about "upping" your game...

My take is it's a machine that can do a lot of what sign equipment does, but not as well, not as large, nowhere near as fast and that it would "catch on fire" if you run it through one day in a busy sign shop...but it's cool that it's out there.
  11. Talk about "upping" your game...

It is amazing. Basically a desktop Zund minus optical registration. I doubt repeatability and durability (can't you see the heads being changed out wiggle around after a bit?) are in any way comparable to production equipment so it wouldn't last in a sign business long but there's a point at...
  12. Rant Customer wants to see $1M proof of insurance for $48 banner

Always think about the lifetime value of the client before you peev them off. I'm guessing you have $1MM umbrella anyhow, so you can send your copy and paste email to your insurance guy, they will send it direct to client, it takes 15 seconds. If they are being jerks that's different but many...
