  1. here we have another crappy payer

Yup, I had a client who owned an indian restaurant, this was his MO, i would install something and he would have me "take a look" at something else he wanted, and would say to just add it to the same invoice, this dragged out for about 9 months before I got paid finally.
  2. here we have another crappy payer

Lol, I have a client who never pays until they need the next job done, could be 6 days or 6 months, but I know when the cheque shows up they will call in a few days with a new job.
  3. here we have another crappy payer

Yup, you need to control your cash flow and plan on waiting 30-90 days to get paid if you want to do business with any larger companies. Larger companies are very good at delaying payment as much as possible, just part of the game. Usually they will wait until the invoice is past due and you...
  4. Laser Head Accumulates Soot During Engraving

This is not uncommon at all, but I would look at increasing your exhaust CFM if possible, ideally the smoke should be sucked out of the cabinet immediately and not have a chance to settle on the nozzle. We run with the air assist off when engraving rowmark on our trotec and epilog machines...
  5. Suggestions Adding slitters to roll laminator?

Quite often my vinyl will drift a bit during the first few feet, then settle and be consistently. 0.5" off of the laminate for the rest of the roll, a slitter would help cut the overhanging laminate off the roll, I've had the overhang cause issues in the past where it can actually tear the vinyl...
  6. Suggestions Adding slitters to roll laminator?

I've been trying to wrap my head around the same thing for our royal sovereign laminator, I'm sure I could 3D print something that would hold an olfa blade, but I don't have the 3D modeling skills.
  7. Sequential Numbered Small Signs

At that size, we would laser engrave them from either rowmark plastic, or anodized aluminum, it would outlast a digital print and be significantly less labour intensive.
  8. Large indoor polycarbonate installation advice needed

I rule of thumb I always follow, if a sign is large & heavy enough to hurt/kill someone if it were to fall down, never rely on tape or adhesives only! I made this mistake myself about 15 years ago, luckily for me it fell down at 2 am and no one was injured, but it could have killed a kid if the...
  9. Cutter or Router: Colex v Shop Sabre

It happens less when the cutter has registration marks to read as it will align itself better, but if just doing cut vinyl yes it happens there too
  10. Cutter or Router: Colex v Shop Sabre

You might be right, I must be thinking of plasma, those cuts look great!
  11. Cutter or Router: Colex v Shop Sabre

I would think a laser would give you very sloppy edges, anytime I've had metal laser cut there is usually slag and scorch all 9ver the edges that need to be sanded or filed off
  12. Cutter or Router: Colex v Shop Sabre

Yes this is another issue with a belt fed router, our summa does the same, when it advances the sheet, it never picks up exactly where it left off and will always leave a small nick or divit on the transition point, it would be super noticeable on a small parking sign for sure.
  13. Cutter or Router: Colex v Shop Sabre

The decals don't usually fall out freely, they are cut all the way through and pop out with a very soft touch, but I think the paper fibers in the backer paper kind of interlock around the cut and hold them in place just enough to not fall out, but not well enough to carry the whole sheet to a...
  14. Suggestions Installing wall wraps over small patches?

How large of an area are we talking about? If the area is less than a square foot or so, and there aren't too many of them I think you will be fine, just make sure there is no dust left on the surface. Can you try some primer 94 on the sanded mud, never tried it before but it might work.
  15. Raises?

I know most Americans lothe their healthcare system and dealing with "in-network, out of network" etc. what you are proposing would end up applying that to every aspect of your life.
  16. Raises?

How would you propose services for the common good of society get paid? things like roads, education, social safety nets etc. As someone else posted, there are countries that do not impose taxes on their people, but I'm willing to bet you wouldn't want to move to any of them. Now government...
  17. Cutter or Router: Colex v Shop Sabre

Ok, I'll start by saying I don't have either machine I have a summa F1612. I would think the shop saber would be the best choice for cutting lots of aluminum because the conveyor on the colex would not allow you to use a mist when cutting. as for decal through cutting, our summa F1612 does a...
  18. Tipping Question

I wouldn't tip an installer, at least not in cash, they make a decent living, no need. Tipping culture is getting way out of hand, do you tip other professionals you hire, accountant, lawyer?
  19. Question Outsourced Job Headaches

is there any perticular reason your client/you want a deeper etch than Gemini offers? stainless steel, even etched to 4-5 thou will still last outdoors in most environments for hundreds to thousands of years, even when the paint wears out.
  20. Question Outsourced Job Headaches

I feel your pain on this one! we do tons of plaques and while 99% of them go without a hitch, there is always 1 or 2 a year that end up like this. I can see both sides of the coin, the spacing is extremely tight in the proof. the etching process eats not only down but also outwards, so...
