  1. Rant Customer Rant

Stress? We can come back to this once you start a shop. Wait til have to give your employees an IOU for half their paycheck, your CC is maxed out, bills late and you don't have enough work coming in to get you out of the hole. I had to "borrow" diesel fuel out of our customers equipment to run...
  2. Finding jobs with new UV Printer

Quick and easy is crowded but there will always be plenty of room for quality and hard workers. Best thing to do is get out and start pounding the pavement, you will find the work if you want it.
  3. 3M40c Peeling

That's stuffs brutal. I doubt that vinyl would have even stuck for this long. Last one we got you could hardly get the transfer tape off the vinyl without pulling it up. Pretty sure the lettering fell off before the guy even got out of the parking lot.
  4. Levelling up

    It's your chin hairs.
  5. Levelling up

    Cobwebs?
  6. Rant Customer Rant

The trick is to ascertain which jobs are a real rush and which are not. Then sandbag the ones that aren't. If they're decent, it trains them, if they're always gonna be a pita, it runs them off. Win win
  7. What are some ways to show gratitude to past clients?

Nope, just Spanish and Pennsylvania redneck.
  8. Need Help Having trouble with export

This won't help but Corel does that to us sometimes. Can usually re-export it and it clears up.
  9. What are some ways to show gratitude to past clients?

I used to do that at every convenient store I went in.
  10. What are some ways to show gratitude to past clients?

I don't think any of these giveaway things really do anything other than bump up your own ego. We put keychains on everything that comes in here, give away pens, hats, shirts, signs etc. I remember giving out dry erase wall calendars to jobsites and trying to be the first in there with one so...
  11. Rant Customer Rant

You're flopping all over the place here, you brought up your boss taking rush orders, that you are able to knock out but annoy you. I never said unprofitable, I said cheap. Big difference there. Our ability to do jobs fast, slow, late or on time is all baked into our pricing, I just do not...
  12. Rant Customer Rant

Whatever their reasoning is for the rush is irrelevant. I agree that it is annoying but it doesn't change the situation or what you are able to gain from their self created (or not) predicament. The on time, right or cheap thing is cute and makes people feel power but it's a fallacy. You...
  13. Rant Customer Rant

We have a customer with LD's on every job. Luckily, their vendor options are few and far between so we do not accept it in the contract. We sprayed a beacon tower for the airport a few years ago and it was the same thing. They went in circles trying to find someone else but eventually came...
  14. Rant Customer Rant

Rush fees sour the whole deal. I may suck it up and eat a rush fee if we need something quick but I sure as shit will not go back as it feels like they are taking advantage of your bad situation. I know people here will disagree and that's fine, it is just how I have always looked at things...
  15. Rant Customer Rant

From an owners perspective, this is an annoyance but these are the things that make you money when you squeeze them in. It also can buy you time with them on future projects, rush a few through and sit on a few. You just have to train them that you CAN do things fast but you are not going to...
  16. Channel Letters on "Accordion" Style facades

Yeah no crap. You know they didn't build the building with randomly placed structural elements, you would think they would at least measure those things out so it didn't look like such a "not my problem" job.
  17. Substance vinyl issues

I'll withhold my disdain for the HP printers here. Never had an issue with 444lse in 30 or 54 and we've ran a fair amount of it using a canned PVC profile. They have icc profiles on their site but don't know how the HP mystery machines work. If nothing else, call them. Their customer service...
  18. Cutting laminated material

Slowing down for thicker materials helps quite a bit. Check how much blade is exposed from the holder, 1/2 the thickness of a credit card or a little more seems to be a good starting point.
  19. S2 Kiss Cut and Die Cut in one pass

You have to set that all up on the plotter. That's the first thing you do after putting it together.
