  1. Is it an ink problem or a UV lamp problem? I wonder..

If your unit uses bulbs, then yes they likely need replacing every 6-12 months. The newer LED versions have a separate unit that cools the unit and controls intensity of the lamps - so if you have a LED lamp unit, lamp intensity is likely set too low. Water should not dissolve cured UV inks...
  2. ACM OUTSIDE

Aluminum Composite is very durable for exterior use. It comes in different thicknesses: as a 3mm it is a great material to go on a wall or over a wooden face, but 3mm is too thin to withstand wind unsupported (like when used between two posts); 6mm or thicker will do much better between posts -...
  3. Outbid by competition - fight or flight?

They asked about installing it themselves... did the other shop exclude installation from the quote? That might be the difference in cost.

  5. I am curious about the handtop print option and the Kyocera head (KJ4A-0300) voltage setting.

First, Trailing lamps are right dir_ L_Lamp checked, R_Lamp not checked, left dir L_Lamp not checked, R_Lamp checked Leading lamps is the opposite right dir_ L_Lamp not checked, R_Lamp checked, left dir L_Lamp checked, R_Lamp not checked Dual Lamps would have all four checked - but only use when...
  6. I am curious about the handtop print option and the Kyocera head (KJ4A-0300) voltage setting.

Screen is the fineness of the dots - a lower number yields an image that is very sharp, a higher number yields an image best seen from far away. Ink density is essentially the amount of ink used to print. So 1x would be a normal amount. 2x is sometimes useful when printing on a sign that will be...
  7. UV Printing on Glass Being Installed in a Bathroom

I would be more concerned about cleaners and detergents (shampoo, soap). You could always apply a clear or matter laminate over the graphic if need be.
  8. Reinstalling VW Dual question

I might not be back today to answer, but I'm sure we would all like to know what the issue is before making suggestions...
  9. The amount of memory required to use the RIP could not be secured.

You often do need to delete some old jobs in Versa Works to bring in large files. Try cleaning it out of whatever is not needed and resend it.
  10. Prints on clear acrylic

We've used all three options as well. One thing I remember, when we did option 3 we one found that when you get near the end of a roll of the optically clear mounting adhesive, sometimes it would have a ripple/impression from where it had been taped to the roll and this would transfer to the...
  11. Dust under laminate tips?

Clean the area... the dust is coming from somewhere in your shop. Maybe the floor as you walk; maybe from using a panel saw and the dust is still floating in the air. I would suggest you clean the table and the floors, use a tack roller on the substrate, do your material prep (cutting substrate...
  12. 3M IJ175 alternative?

For decals wrap vinyl is not so good, but those with Rapid Air/Air release work great. We use Avery MPI1105 EZ for decals or Oracal 3951RA. For Wraps, Avery MPI 1005 EZRS, Oracal 3951 Pro Slide, Arlon SLX+ all work well. For laminate our favorite is OraGuard 290, though it is not inexpensive. A...
  13. laminate or not

You will need to laminate them. As far as vinyl, Avery MPI 1005 EZ (and NOT the EZRS - repositionable needs to be post form heated, whereas EZ does not) is a good quality, readily available air release type vinyl with good initial tack and a good price. Avery sets the price on this, so it should...
  14. Creating complex weeding lines

I don't see the issue weeding this. But a tip is to put the cut on it and let it sit overnight before weeding - often the adhesive will pull away from itself a tiny bit where the vinyl is cut and be easier to weed.
  15. low tack vinyl for eco-solvent inks

Orafol 3621 Soft Calendared White Vinyl - it is removable and less than $200 for a 54"x50yd roll.
  16. Using Magnetic Material Tips

We usually print using our UV, but remember you can print onto vinyl and coat the magnets and then trim them out...
  17. Thinking about buying Graphtec FC8600-130

I'd offer him $3500, but that machine will pay for itself overtime.
  18. Suggestions One UV hybrid printer vs Roll to Roll and Flatbed printer

Get the one that best fits the work you are doing. We started with a roll printer (Roland Eco-Solvent) and it is still a workhorse. You can print on vinyl 4x8 and apply to rigid substrate if needed. We added a Flatbed UV and that has been awesome (FluidColor - a Handtop essentially) as most jobs...
  19. Niagara Falls

There is a restaurant in East Aurora NY called The Globe - fantastic steaks. Also, when in the area get a Beef on a Weck (spelled correctly, it is a type of bun) sandwich. It is roast beef with horseradish sauce and is a local specialty.
  20. Fellers ordering anxiety

We buy a fair amount of vinyl from Fellers and I like that their website does actually tell you if it is in stock. We also buy from Harbor, Grimco and RVinyl and I shop Glantz (their stock and rep aren't top notch, though will admit after getting help from the ladies that answer the phone leaves...
