  1. Flatbed vs Roll, hot vs cold, too many options

We have a 1640 and it is the only laminator we have. We use it every day and really like it. We even use it to roll on translucent vinyl onto long faces (do about half at a time we have done up to 24' long). Ours does not have heat and is not electric with the exception of a light - which is...
  2. Preferred material for enclosed trailer wraps

We use Oracal 3951RA and Avery 1105EZ and though adhesive color is different shades of gray they perform identically. That said, we use Arlon SLX+ (low initial tack) for wraps. On all of these we prefer Oraquard 290 laminate. Grimco offers their Briteline WrapCast vinyl (think Arlon SLX+) and...
  3. Help identifying mounting clip

    Legos... really! https://modulex.com/
  4. Upselling quotes (good/better/best)

Good/Better/Best works in some cases, like retail where you are trying to get business from different type of customers for one product. But in custom signs too many options sounds like you don't understand the customer's needs or wants. best place to start is to ask questions and takes notes...
  5. UV prints and transfer tape

Have you considered putting a laminate on it before cutting or masking? Other than that, you can increase the lamp intensity a little to help cure better - note that too much causes the UV ink to become brittle. Personally, I would laminate with a thin optically clear/gloss like Briteline...
  6. Text (overlapping) to plotter issues

Depends what software you are using. If cutting with a Graphtec in the pen tab you click on "Eliminate Line Segment Overlap".
  7. Mimaki vs Roland

We have a Roland XR-640 and it has been bulletproof. But then the company that sold it to us has been a great resource too. I don't know if the newer Rolands are still as good, but the only issue we have had was a head went bad under warranty (head crash). It has just been a workhorse. That...
  8. What's a good cleaner for Coroplast (aside from alcohol) to remove fingerprints/oils?

We have used more than one vendor and I can say sometimes the coroplast is corona treated for better printing and sometimes it is not - source matters. But we use Solv S1000 adhesion promoter to clean off all plastics before printing. As to not needing to clean if you have the right inks, etc...
  9. Looking for a wholesale printer for a 15 oz lay flat blockout material

We do not do wholesale/trade printing. You might check out Firesprint or Signs 365
  10. Looking for a wholesale printer for a 15 oz lay flat blockout material

  11. Looking for a wholesale printer for a 15 oz lay flat blockout material

We use Ultraflex's SuperSmooth PET Blockout SSPETBO137050, 15oz matte white printable on either side. We get it in 38" and 54" wide rolls that are 164' long. We get from our local supplier, Harbor Sales, https://harborsales.net/tabid/130/Default.aspx?ProductTypeId=53&FilterApplication=Blockout
  12. Need Help Advice on printer

Advantages & Disadvantages of UV: Cures immediately, Color can flake off of vinyl if not laminated, Color is raised, so subtle air bubbles around edge of printed areas when laminated. We have a Roland XR640 Eco-Solvent printer now. It has been great. If we were to buy another printer it would...
  13. problem with UV printing. glow at the end

Leading vs trailing lamp setting. One produces glossy, the other flat finish.
  14. s80600 owners, leave your machine on or off when not using?

On all the time. The heads can dry out or clog if you don't
  15. Oralite 5650 RA vs 3M IJ680 R

We use Nikkalite 48000 white for street signs. Have to agree with ikarasu that it comes off in small pieces if you need to strip it. But you can apply it to a wrap vinyl before you cut it, like Arlon SLX or Briteline WrapCast, and it will give it conformability and easy removal. Never tried...
  16. Question 1360Z Gloss Overlaminate

290 is the bomb. And it is back in stock at Fellers I never liked the Avery laminates. Prefer 290, 3M 8518, and Briteline WrapCast Overlaminate. Arlon 3270 is good too.
  17. shop floors, what's your's like, what works

Home Depot hires in a company to polish the concrete floors about once per year or two. During the rest of the year they have cleaning contractors that run a fancy machine that essentially wet mops the floor.
  18. Pealing Vinyl

You used a 7 year Calendared vinyl in a full sun application with a 4 year calendared laminate. Both were not good choices for durability and for the effects of the full sun. I believe what you are seeing here is the extra energy from the sun causing the calendared vinyl to try to return to a...
  19. Layered vinyl on desk with no tape

I would expect the customer would need application tape to keep everything pre-spaced, but if you want to go to some trouble, you could cut out some of the blue and use a roller to apply some orange before putting it in your plotter to cut - your math would have to be good so everything is...
