Yes, print black on matte black vinyl, we do it all the time.

There are many issues that might come from PDFs as others have mentioned....transparency or font issues, overprinting, etc. ya never know. Sounds like you have a client on top of details....in the long run that's a good thing.

Ask what you need to give or "do" to Joe and call it done, not gonna get any better.

Didn't know "glossy" meant better. Personally, I prefer a much more matte finish to finished prints anyway, looks higher end in my humble opinion.

Lou, it sounds like you guys need an intensive training session on how to run your equipment and what it takes to get them to output color correctly. Just so you know, in order to achieve the the best color consistency from media to media, you will need to have profiles setup for every media...

We are currently running 4 Caldera RIP's and never have had this issue. Hopefully you had a current backup. It sounds like a hardware issue.

If you are set on turning off the safety (a risky move) I think it's pretty easy if you remove the covers off of both sides of the machine. We had an old used one in our shop for a while. Someone had simply moved the laser from one side, and put it directly in front of the "receiver" portion on...

Does anyone know of any "environmentally friendly" alternatives to adhesive backed vinyl that we can print on then die cut? We get this question often and have tried a couple things with varying degrees of success, would love to know if anyone knows of anything?

I disagree. Many differences. We couldn't get gradients to print without banding for the life of us in Onyx. Switched to caldera, no issues. Caldera and onyx also lay down different amounts of ink.

Did you try printing shuttered vs non shuttered? It sometimes helps with our banding in black areas. We also had some weird banding issues we couldn't resolve when one of our machines had a vacuum issue. Once it was fixed, banding lessened.

So, just curious if any of you folks have ever laminated HP photo paper front + back that was printed on on an HP latex machine? (especially bigger prints?) We often have need for these types of solutions, but have found that after time some of the laminated prints start to curl. One time we...
