  1. Vinyl Posters Cold Weather Install on Windows

We keep the vinyl warm until the moment it is installed. We have used Rapid Tac II and like it. Heat to set it in some cases - but be careful as heat will draw moisture (like when used to heat surface. Our best results using heat to prep a surface have come from heating the back side. FWIW...
  2. Need Help RF640 cian issues

Sounds like air. But if you bought it in November, it should still be under warranty - call your rep and have them correct the issue
  3. Outdoor Digital Media

We use 3551 all the time for decals, but always use 3951 and Arlon SLX Cast Wrap for wraps. The 3551 is a good material, prints well, consistent. We prefer the longer life of the 3951... paired with the proper laminate (290 or Arlon 3270).
  4. Re-positioning acrylic pin-mounted letters

MikePro answered it. One tip, if you don't have a pen for your plotter get a Sharpie Twin Tip and use some masking tape to make the outside of it the right thickness for your plotter to hold it (centered), then send a cut to the plotter and it will trace the pattern.
  5. Thick Striping on Truck

Other than improving skill with a heat gun (a must in this business) or with knifeless tape, you can apply vinyl over vinyl with air egress (like Arlon Cast Wrap or Oracal 3951 Rapid Air) to gain flexibility. We have used this on Fire Trucks and Emergency Vehicles to get reflective to follow...
  6. Suggestions application table suggestions

We have a CWT and really like it.
  7. Suggestion for cut vinyl wall lettering

You've already gotten plenty of good advice on the vinyl, but one thing to find out from your client is when was the wall painted. Latex paint is not fully cured until it is 30 days or more old. If something was painted within that time frame, the likelihood of vinyl failure is higher.
  8. Ugh....WHY!?!?!

have you considered taking to a work area and using your air compessor to blow the worst off before taking them back to your assembly area
  9. Noob from uk

As far as excellent plotters, both Graphtec and Summa are excellent and you can print on the Roland and cut on these. As far as printing, we have a Roland XR640 and it is a really excellent printer - reliable, high quality, trouble free, economical inks. The XR640 is not the best cutter of...
  10. Question Multi-Layered Printing?

We size the media to the finished substrate size - example 24x36 - and print. The second printing is sized to media size also of 24x36 but with color only located where it is needed. We use a contour cut for the not printing substrate size (so no fill no stroke) as neither our old nor our new...
  11. Question Multi-Layered Printing?

Another option, if you don't have the ability to print color/white/color, is to print color with white, then send a second file to print color only. We used to print on glass all the time on our old CET and would send one file with color and a spot color, printing as overspot to leave clear...
  12. JFX200-2513_Ink Scratching

Odd problem. Don't have a solution for you, but rule of thumb is too much UV ink is cured to the point of brittleness, too little and ink is too soft. If you are using UV bulbs, hold old are they? If you have LED UVs, try changing the intensity settings
  13. Need Help Anyone know where to get the material to make this curb sign..looks cool!!!

We have found Alumagraphics works great on concrete but not on sealed asphalt. Do you have any tips on applying to asphalt?
  14. Amateur banner question

ah... 9x50 is not a banner but a sail... have you considered air slits and cable reinforcements? First time I put up a banner that size the breeze about lifted us off the ground. I would have a shop that specializes in banners that large make the blank for you, might want someone that installs...
  15. Need Help Lamps on Vanguard VK300

Those symptoms and this time of year - static. Try cleaning the Polystyrene twice with alcohol and a lint free cloth or microfiber cloth - last wipe evenly straight all in one direction. The Alcohol will help reduce the static. You could also add a humidifier to your shop - these machines like...
  16. Question UV Printing on MDO

Printing on MDO panels painted white with 1-Shot. On pastel areas handprints show up - seems to be oils left behind when my substrate guy handled them. Cleaning these with alcohol before printing dulls the finish and would be difficult to to leave streak free. Anyone have any tips on a better...
  17. Cement Truck Vinyl Type and Pricing

These trucks are washed frequently with a pressure washer in our area. We would use a 9yr cast vinyl. For printed logos, we would use a cast as well - either Arlon SLX Cast Wrap with Arlon 3270 laminate or Oracal 3951RA (rapid air) with Oraguard 290 gloss laminate (make sure your vinyl and...
  18. Need Help Has anyone else seen this before?

Are your graphics made using a latex printer?
  19. Noob expanding from vinyl to print help / advice...

I second that for $5k your budget is too small to get into print yet. If you are trying to build up the business, I would start with a vinyl plotter - 30" minimum, 60" preferred. You can almost get a new Graphtec FC900-160 (60") plotter for that, so $5k may get you a used one that is only a few...
  20. Need Help BEST plotter for Contour Cutting Reflective Material??

We use a FC9000 and love it with one reservation - our old Graphtec would cut beyond the pinch wheels if needed (to the edge), on the new one the cut must be within the area of your vinyl between the pinch wheels - so you lose close to 1.5 to 2 inches of material. Other than that it has been...
