  2. Latex on fabric - black scratches?

We managed to get a great, rich black on many fabrics, (fisher and others josh @ big fish sent us) by using our own profiles but the problem is there is so much ink on the material it scratches off pretty easily. We even tried spraying art fixatives, scotch guard etc to try and get better...
  3. Looking for a Flatbed or Hybrid UV - Quality over Speed

Agree to this statement. We just ordered another fb700, and while there are things I dislike about the printers, the quality of the prints at slower speeds is definitely not one of them....our main complaint is they are slow and we have found reliability a bit suspect, but we run ours 16+ hours...
  4. Latex on fabric - black scratches?

Yup, we're having similar issues. LX850, latest ink w/heavy coverage on various fabrics seems to scratch pretty easily. Couldn't resolve it...had to outsource some work to a dye sub printer...erg.
  5. Latex on fabric - black scratches?

nah, pretty much only heavy ink on fabrics. we're running the new inks...
  6. Latex on fabric - black scratches?

Greetings, curious if anyone else has this problem when printing black (especially rich black) on fabrics w/ HP latex inks. ink scratching off very easily. Am wondering if our builds are too rich, or if this is an inherent problem with latex on fabric when lots of ink is being laid down?

  10. buying a new flatbed

No worries, thanks! That's the problem with message boards and emails I reckon, sometimes tone can be misinterpreted. And if you started with zero customers or equipment, I would say the fact you are still in business at all is an accomplishment! That is tough and in my mind would take way more...
  11. buying a new flatbed

Um...thanks? For what it's worth, we may have only been open 8+ months, but between my partner and I we have nearly 40+ years experience in the industry and a lot of great previous customers whom decided to stay with us and give us a shot when we started our own gig. Our philosophy has been...
  12. buying a new flatbed

Wanted to thank all you guys for the input. Funny how things come around, we actually just pulled the trigger on another FB 700. Crazy! After much discussion we decided that to step up to the OCE or Agfa right now may not be enough 1-2 years down the road, and like Mike said none of what we were...
  13. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

Well said. But, i might change the heading to "what makes ANYONE feel like they design anything." I've been in the design business for 15+ years doing work for many large corporations and you should see some of the portfolios we get when looking for designers. i would say many folks on this...

  16. POS software

Cyrious can do all you want, that's exactly how we are set up. We can remotely connect to our server and anyone can access it in the shop. It can do estimates, billing, track jobs, manage job stations and handle your marketing. It's expensive though, meant for bigger shops and takes a while to...
  17. buying a new flatbed

Mike - that Novus IS pretty "different" eh? I love the 3 year warranty (especially on new technology) and the fact the inks are more green with less VOCs than UV. I'll get bashed for it, but a lot of our customers here in the NW require us to be as green as possible, one of the reason we went...
  18. buying a new flatbed

You're right, the Vutek and FB700 are hybrids. But the Oce and AGFAs are flatbeds. One of the reasons we like those 2 models in particular in that they'd compliment our existing equipment well. We do a lot of double sided and are thinking registration would be easier on a true flatbed?
  19. buying a new flatbed

Actually buying another FB was our initial plan when we bought the first one. Our reseller has offered us a great deal on another one too. But, we have slowly grown unhappy with the FB. It prints beautifully with no cure banding on about any substrate...at about 50 sf/hr! Anything with deep...
  20. buying a new flatbed

Good points. But, our customers are pretty savvy and I think our model is to be as different as we can from our competitors. There are a slew of businesses in town that do similar output to what we do, that said we are differentiating ourselves by our design services and methodology not...
