  1. Direct to wall inkjet

I have been intermittently following a direct to vehicle printing technology for several years, but it really hasn't gone anywhere. About 5 years ago an offshore company (cant remember if Japanese or Chinese) brought it over to California and tried to launch but never really got anywhere. At...
  2. What happened to Timeless Medium?

Insert clever joke about the irony of missing fonts name....
  3. Business Management - 6/16/2020 - open discussion

On that subject, what software have you tested? I have worked with several over the last few years (not just in the sign industry) and my favorite seems to be Asana. Lately, we have been testing a very simplified shared spreadsheet with status and minimal job info and it has been pretty good. I...
  4. Question about LED wire

I am no electrician by any stretch but came across the same question a while back. From what I gathered, I think the answer is twofold: 1) I believe the Paige wire is listed in SAM which offers some flexibility to non UL registered shops. 2) IIRC the jacket allows it to pass through walls...
  5. Fiberglass ladder care

I agree checking if modifications are allowed by osha etc. but here's a thought, what about wrapping them with some bright colors and even throw in some reflective? If not that maybe just put some good quality laminate over the fiberglass. I have never tried that myself, just thinking out loud...
  6. Need Help Mounting aluminum sign to glass door

I like the idea of applying black vinyl and sticking to that, I usually just use the clear hi bond tape, usually orafol uhb 3M vhb or similar, it holds well and comes off way better than foam tape.
  7. Question Quickbooks Premier 2020, Price?

Often times the best deal for QB is at the bulk stores (sams club, Costco) and the savings will usually be a little more than the cost of membership and there is usually a few options including payroll package. Our cpa shared this little nugget with us a few versions ago.
  8. One color changes depending on the file

Are you using softproofing? What are your color settings. I would recommend you watch the recent webinar by mark rugen available from mutoh (should be on youtube now) about color settings and profiles.
  9. Question Recycling Banners

Farmers love to use them for tarps and will usually pay around your material cost for them....
  10. 1000 masking layers

Like bannertime said, right click unmask all, then use select by attributes ( shortcut is "d") to selct the black rectangles and delete...its not going to be fun but cross your fingers and hope it works
  11. Sponsorship Banners

Are they local businesses or larger companies? I have found it can be worth the time (depending how many) to just quickly call the sponsor and explain what you are doing. If they are local companies and you can get their logo files to save along with a contact it could easily be enough of a...
  12. Need Help 3M Ij180mC-10 with micro Technology - reviews? Better than ..Cv3?

I have been using the mc-10 for 10+ partial van wraps over the last year or so, no complaints about installation properties (I never used much cv3 to compare though). I did have a roll with missing spots of vinyl occuring every 4-6 feet, still waiting on warranty for that. I have also had issues...
  13. pattern making from 3d model, exactflat or alternitives

In that case I would use a surface modeling software to model the surface and then flatten, you can use a deformation plot to see where the material needs to shrink or stretch and by how much. depending on the surface and the material used you can tweak the design to fit the needs of the...
  14. pattern making from 3d model, exactflat or alternitives

Are you talking gaussian surfaces (compound curves) that need to have distortion in order to flatten? There are many solutions out there and most CAD packages have some functionality built in. Fusion360 has decent surface flattening abilities including deformation plots.
  15. pattern making from 3d model, exactflat or alternitives

Pretty vague question, can you give an example of what you want to flatten? What software you have, what format the models are and the models geometry will have a huge impact...
  16. Colors

First thing I would try is to add contours in illustrator and send directly to PM and see if it prints the same.
  17. Brazing aluminum

With the price of import welders, it would be well worth it to get a small setup and learn (either spoolgun(mig) or tig) if you do any volume, its a great skill to learn. It will take a couple thousand in tools/materials and a few nights of practice to get the hang of it. Generally speaking...
  18. Sign company or wana be TV stars?

But what are the signs manufacturing?
  19. Need Help Have never done this before..............................

Just did some compliance window decals this way except for black text white background. We don't have white ink in house either so I reverse printed the black text on clear media and backed/laminated with white vinyl (clear adhesive obviously). They turned out great. Another option I was...
