  1. Question DX7 Printhead Dented/Destroyed? Visible damage. No ink is printing at all. How did this happen? Help?!

A Roland I used to run ate a few, their media clamps were terrible.
  2. Question DX7 Printhead Dented/Destroyed? Visible damage. No ink is printing at all. How did this happen? Help?!

Another common head destroyer is media clamps. Look at them and see if there's any signs of damage, it should have left some scrapes/ marks on, or bent/ deformed one if that was the culprit. Always good to inspect those regularly to make sure they aren't bent at all, or worn out and loose enough...
  3. Vinyl for "fence pad"

Screen printing would probably be the best option, and should work on them, even though they're a couple years old. Vinyls hold up to a lot of flexing, bending, folding on banners, that's what we used before large format printers. I don't know how vinyl receptive that material is, or how well...
  4. Not sure if this is the correct category.................................................................................

It's insane how often it gets all the way to trying to find an installer for a sign that doesn't meet local code. First, the company it's for should have been responsible to make sure what they want can be legally done before doing anything. From zoning, to parking, licenses, permits of all...
  5. They're takin our JOBs!

Can't even fathom what the price tag would be once it's ready for release into the market. Would be a game changer for sheet metal fabbing into crazy shapes for one-off things like signage. Program & go. I grew up in body shops, spent most of my younger years saving parts rather than replacing...
  6. BEWARE of South Water Signs

I'm sure they do... Simple web searches come up with it, along with a bunch of civil suits against them for breach of contract and fraud. I imagine they weren't paying taxes either. When Uncle Sam gets involved, it's game over.
  7. Ceramic Poker / Golf Chips?

  8. Thankfully it's not ours...

Exactly. 52 years in business, no failures like this, everything has a markup, the trucks alone turn great profits... Small dedicated staff, paid well, treated well. Downtime is almost non existent, on the rare occasion it does happen, Owner has never laid anyone off, your hours are guaranteed...
  9. Thankfully it's not ours...

Not surprising. Here in Wisconsin, you know things like the destructive ground frost we get play a massive role. Specs for foundations that will hold up here are pretty unique. We've had to replace a fair share from the ground up, especially those put up by national corporations who send crews...
  10. Thankfully it's not ours...

It works out well for us. Besides general signage and graphics, we're geared more for installs. We have large boom trucks, excavation equipment for ground work, do installs for everything from other area shops who don't have the gear, to national companies along with what we sell and install...
  11. Printed Color Change Wrap

We're more into the sign end than wraps, can't always free up enough time/ personnel, so this is what we do too. We have an extremely talented wrap guy in town who's always happy to have the work when we're too swamped.
  12. Mimic Frosted Glass With Only Clear Vinyl

What purpose would there be to not use frosted? If they want something besides just plain ol' boring frosted, you can print to most of them, I do it all the time. I do it for medical facilities, banks, restaurants, doors, windows, glass partitions... It's a whole market in itself. I've done...
  13. Thankfully it's not ours...

The mainstay of our business is this, and why we farm out the fabbing to companies who have the expertise & experience, because the liability is massive. Anything we do in house is double, triple checked for quality, welding is done by certified people. When I design them, I used to be told I...
  14. Thankfully it's not ours...

First storm of springtime rolled through yesterday, not massive, or severe, maybe 40-45mph winds, should have handled that easily. It took a 16'x16' head off a pylon at a large truck dealership, flex face didn't blow out, it just took the whole thing down. Looks like the interior center support...
  15. Question Which material would be best for a work trailer set of decals?

I've been thrown off the dock so often in this game that I keep a set of water wings in one of my desk drawers. And maybe a bottle of bourbon in another one. Shhhh... :toasting:
  16. Question Which material would be best for a work trailer set of decals?

Some learn to swim properly. Some just jump into the deep end of the pool.
  17. Question Which material would be best for a work trailer set of decals?

Your revisions are better than his mess... From a marketing standpoint, whatever you can't read in a couple of seconds is wasted. No one gets the time to look at everything unless it's parked and they're walking by. For print ads in newspapers, buyers and shopper guides, flyers & handouts, go...
  18. ACM Sign Warping

You're rant is right on the money signbrad! I found a dusty old ACM color sample deck in a drawer when we were cleaning out the shop a while back, no clue how many years it's been there for (company is 52 years old), but the aluminum was noticeably thicker than anything we get from any...
  19. Question What sticks to a Fire Hose?

I was on a volunteer department for several years, any hose marking we did was painted on. There are a lot of different hoses, and variety of materials used. Suction and booster hoses are more rigid, an aggressive permanent adhesive decal could work on those. Flat ones are jacketed with flexible...
  20. So, my takeout pizza was not ready...

You guys can have yer' pizzas... Heat up the cast iron, throw a tater in the microwave, all done in 10 about minutes. Mid rare butter & garlic basted NY strip & taters, yum yum. Takes less time than it does to make, order, or go pick up a nasty pizza, all for about $12
