  1. Question Pad/Stud Mounts on Acrylic Letters

I mostly use Gemini for plaques, but the few times I've ordered letters from them I've had them in my hands in 4 business days, painted a custom Pantone match, drilled & tapped with a install template, for less than it would cost me to bring in a sheet of the raw acrylic and router them myself.
  2. People never cease to amaze me with their sneaky ways...

Good, people who try to be underhanded and shady are not who you want as clients, its never worth taking these types of people on. Just like when someone comes into my shop and starts bad mouthing one of my competitors "Joe is a horrible businessman, he won't even return my phone calls!" I...
  3. Tactile and braille sign

Speed mostly, the laser cuts the applique much faster then the rotary, the laundry room sign is about 8"x8" and the laser would take about 20 seconds to cut the applique on that sign, plus there are no little chips to clean up. We run a vision 1612 for our rotary, and while its a workhorse...
  4. Tactile and braille sign

Our current process is to stick the applique on the sign, put it in the laser to cut, then weed it off, no issues except we are limited to using P95 acrylic, if we try to use glossy acrylic or even non-glare, the tape from the applique sticks to well to the backer and leaves tons of tape behind...
  5. Tactile and braille sign

Is your directory made of a single panel, or are there individual "slats" for each tenant? Individual slats make much more sense since they can be updated easily when people move, and you can add braille much easier on a 36" x 4" piece than a 36"x60"
  6. Tactile and braille sign

We make a ton of tactile & braille signs, we use a laser engraver for cutting the rowmark applique, and a rotary engraver for the raster braille. There is also the photopolymer process, which is great for large runs, but the inevitable 3 signs at the end of the job that got missed add up very...

  8. S80600 Missing Cyan

I came back from vacation this week and noticed that I was missing about 90% of the nozzles in the cyan nozzle of head 2, i ran a medium cleaning and it came back to around 70%, I ran a bunch of other cleanings and it made no improvement, I did a nozzle wash/flush on that colour block and it...
  9. finishing/de-burring diabond/maxmetal & such

We use either a 1/2" round steel bar, or a 18mm olfa blade knife dragged at an angle
  10. Onyx 12.2 and summa marks

I'll try this next time, however I don't think you can delete crop marks that fall on a segmentation line, which is where the issue happens.
  11. Onyx 12.2 and summa marks

Well that stinks! you would think Onyx would give the option of mark type, oh well. Do you happen to know how to make go produce confirm every mark before cutting? I wouldn;t mind having to do that on some jobs, especially $150 sheets of PVC. Thanks!
  12. Onyx 12.2 and summa marks

I've run across a bit of a unique problem with our summa f1612. When we are using the router to cut out thicker black substrates (black pvc, 6mm ACM etc) the camera will often mistake the end point of a segment as a crop mark, which makes sense since it looks like a 5mm black circle and it's...
  13. Is it just me?

I'll add to this, sometimes a phone call will speed things up and answer any questions you might have, however it's always best to follow up with an email, such as "as per our phone conversation earlier, we will be proceeding with xyz" that way there is a paper trail and they can't go back on...
  14. Need a non-ADA compliant braille sign

If you have the equipment to make it in house, I've had good luck with krylon fusion and painting rowmark ADA applique when a special colour is needed in small quantities. No one is going to make you a single sign for less than you can make it yourself.
  15. Semi Permanent Vinyl On Correx?

You'll be fine, even the easy remove stuff sticks well enough, usually "removable" means that when you remove it, it leaves as little adhesive behind as possible, not that it falls off (usually)
  16. Where do you buy your vinyl?

I thought I read that oracal was discontinuing all 15" punched media due to very low demand
  17. Arlon/Mactac Frosted Printed window films

I've printed on etchmark with solvent printers quite a few times with great results
  18. Arlon/Mactac Frosted Printed window films

If you are going to apply wet anyway, why spend the extra money on the air release media? I've only used the mactac air release frosted vinyl once and I wasn't impressed, the air channels were clearly visible through the glass for months after install, plus you could see pressure marks from the...
  19. Creating Layers in Corel

I use Corel every day, I never use layers, I've spoken to a few other shops who are Corel only and they are in the same boat. I've never understood the point of having tons of layers in a design, usually when I get a file from a designer who uses Adobe, every single element is on its own layer...
  20. Disposal of old panels

How much are dump fees there?! Over here that would fall under the minimum charge of $8 for up to 100kg of trash
