  1. Lost half of the magenta

ink supply issue. *check to make sure the ink cartridge itself actually has ink in it. (its wierd, but I've had it happen before...my jv3 registered 3/10 level but cartridge was bone-dry) could be air in ink line, bad connection between lines>damper>printhead or a cracked manifold (plastic part...
  2. Building a sign box with VHB tape

pics to follow, when I can un-bury these signs I just removed for replacement, but I just demo'd two 4'wide x 6'tall x 8"deep sign frames that were completely constructed using VHB tape and what appears to be a sad attempt at a Seal-It Foam filler. my first thought: "Osnap! I just posted in a...
  3. Black friday and cyber deals? Where, I saw none

Cybermonday @ crucial.com jacked their RAM prices up 10%, most likely to make up for the 25% they slashed on SSD's getting 3-240GB SSD's for our design comps, and "saving" $120.
  4. New Zealand Airplane wrap

not like I'd be wrapping a plane anytime soon, buuuuut I'd be interested to know as well. random theory: maybe they cross-cut it, like security decals, so that if it peeled it would just flake-off in 1/8" pieces?
  5. CJV30 60 - bad printing after new DX5 head installed

tech installed printhead and left you printing like this? i have no first-hand experience with dx5's but I'd imagine that they're just like 4-dx4's merged into 1 printhead. Slant adjustment may remedy. New printhead should not have overspray. i assume you're doing your own alignments, and...
  6. what do you think of this new type of laminator?

always thought that it was such a niche market that the Roll's Roller had it locked-down. great tool! ...still debating building my own someday, however.
  7. Black friday and cyber deals? Where, I saw none

first black friday experience, was a good one :) ...30% off my new $500 snowboard deck!(previous got eaten alive by a few large boulders in Snowbird, UT) couldn't find a better deal online, but came across a 30% off a single item coupon for blackfriday@Laake&Joys Outdoors. ...totally worth...
  8. Building a sign box with VHB tape

interesting. maybe smaller boxes, for quick-flips? in theory i'm sure it could work, but my only experience with it is with closing a box with a panel: Building the sign structure, and leaving a section out for access to weld/install, and placing the final panel with VHB tape as the...
  9. What is causing this?

i'd say if it was drifting, check the encoder sensor for debris. you say you've cleaned the strip, but I would still be obsessive and check that particular spot on the strip for anything, especially scratches. otherwise +1 to the break in cable bend.
  10. DIY Print head recovery system - Epson DX4 / DX5 heads, etc.

damper levels don't really matter, they'll usually just rise on their own as the screen becomes clogged and fresh ink climbs over it. what was this thread about again? its gonna be a shame that when someone searches for the same issue, that they will most likely miss-out on these helpful...
  11. Printing on DVD's?

never had an issue with any printable vinyls, lam or not. heck, avery is one of the top brand of printable dvd decals made for desktop printers and I wouldn't be surprised that it is the same exact economy vinyl you can buy from them in roll form. i actually squeeze in our...
  12. Curved aluminum

1/8" rolled aluminum with welded studs.
  13. CJV30 grilled capacitor on pcb board supply + missing black and yellow lines on print

that test print has nothing to do with a power supply/heater. the fact that you have mixed colors in your test print nozzle lines leads me to believe that you've got wiper/cappingstation/simple cleaning & maintenance issues. the hard area of missling lines, is most likely where you had a major...
  14. DIY Print head recovery system - Epson DX4 / DX5 heads, etc.

This is a great thread, love the ingenuity! p.s. :thread use the search function, or start your own thread. ....or lets continue burying good threads like this in unrelated nonsense.
  15. How to make this warp in Illustrator

EDITED: +1'd Firesprint's suggestion. Negative bulge
  16. Thru-cutting loooong strips...How would you do it?

    call me old-fashined, but... straight-edge & knife
  17. rotating illuminated light box

ask your supplier for info regarding "Rotating Sign Motor" or you can just google it, but remember to shop for one that can not only handle the weight of the sign cabinets you intent to mount to it but also have enough torque to rotate it in the first place.
  18. JV33 problem

cool seeing that photo. I'm a JV3, but have always curious how the continuous ink supply worked on the new models... basically just a bridge between the two lines and both lines just draw off whichever cartridge's valve is open. ....also meaning that if you try to draw from a damper with a...
  19. Ready to add a new printer Solvent or Latex ????

Downside, with the HP26500, printheads are a bit less permanent. Requiring changing every 6-12months. Plus side, they're only <$100 and swap-out exactly like the print cartridges do in your desktop printer. I'll also take the 750mL ink cartridges any day over the old 440's anyday. head...
  20. Ready to add a new printer Solvent or Latex ????

hp 26500, nuff said. i was a mimaki guy, myself, until it was finally time to upgrade my jv3 160sp (which is STILL running, after 8yrs) couldn't be happier. everything about printer maintenance/service has gone completely out the window and now is built-in to this beautiful machine. I press...
