  1. Painting Aluminum Signs

There should be no problem painting prefinished white aluminum. Scuff lightly with a fine pad or wet sand, clean & paint with a good oil base enamel (or acrylic polyurethane if you can).
  2. Need Help Color Mismatch on lighted sign, any fix other than remake?

Yep, what Nuage said...even if I had made the original and I had the exact same materials I wouldn't guaranty a perfect match, especially if more than a year or two has passed.
  3. Renovating bronze plaques

I have done this (but not bronze, brass and aluminum) and I think a lot has to do with the client and their expectations. If the plaques are historic and the client wants authenticity it may be better left to a professional metal refinisher. I worked on a job where there was a company restoring...

  8. Tariff on Sign Blanks?

Yea, funny how that bankruptcy works, the principals with the cash and the lawyers drive away in their limo and the plumber uses his retirement to keep from going under. Yes, there are people who use bankruptcy legitimately and there's nothing wrong with that. And then there are serial abusers...

  10. Just sold a sign....Now how do I make it?

I musta missed the part where he asked how much it should cost, or whether he was qualified to make it. Just wanted to ask about some fabrication options. Also when it was said to be for a friend with an expensive lake area home I figured cost wasn't an issue anyhow.

  13. Just sold a sign....Now how do I make it?

I like hanging signs to have some weight so they don't flap too much in a wind. I,too, like the idea of a heavy weld steel frame that incorporates the hangers (which can be two tabs with holes) and bond two single face panels back to back over the frame
  14. Using Ultraboard / Ultra Aluminum as a sign backer - bowing?

I'm not familiar with that exact product but I have had panel that bowed. You can always bond it to something else or I have added a small aluminum angle to the back with vhb to stiffen it.
  15. Photo documentation is your friend

After 40 years of doing this I just had a new one...we were hired by a tenant in a fairly new building to do a couple wall signs, door lettering and add their name to the electric pylon directory. There was only one other wall sign on the building and what they wanted didn't match that, but it...
  16. HELP VINYL LETTERING NOT STICKING TO WALLS!!

No insight here, I test first and if it doesn't stick I give other options, like repainting, putting it on a panel or doing a wall wrap (which requires repainting anyhow)
  17. need help attaching jewelite to weird shaped sign!

Yep, what lefty said. You can use as many nails as you want, we always used finish nails. The glue was applied with a needle nose bottle, just enough, don't want to mar the face.
  18. Service contract renewal-Yay or Nay?

I have had HP aqueous printers forever. On the old ones I would let the warranty expire and do the repairs myself. With the manuals and youtube tutorials it was possible to fix most anything, but it did take time, sometimes lots of time. On my newer ones I decided that I would rather make signs...
