I typed out a big reply, but honestly you can search for this.. it's been beaten to death.
We tape everything, no problems, ever. Wrinkles on the backside of the banner, but no seperations or failures, grommets don't tear out any easier than a sewn hem from out experience.
Looked at these but yeah, the cost was too much.. for twice the price you get a pvc sleeve from hd and it'll hold up to the weed whacker, sun, whatever.
Painting 4x4's is good work for someone to do if you catch them standing around.
Despite having modern ink jets in our shop we still use them a lot.
They print spot colors using thermal foils.
They can print metallic and other special fx colors, including clear coatings and white floods.
Flood colors are FLAWLESS, no grain, no lines.
They print extremely sharp text and...

I had a customer order an A-Frame sign the other day.. Talked to him about the a-frame, colors, design, etc... Then when he came to pick it up he thought he had ordered a flag. I don't know if he wasn't listening, he can't remember, or if he was just a c*nt.
Practice makes perfect, so it always helps to take on projects like these but if your time is important then sending it to someone who can do a good job, efficiently, is your best bet.
Deaton does great work although I've not used him, and someone else in this thread is also great at cartoons...
Sorry to hear about that Eric. I know how it feels and it's no fun, I lost my dog Jason to really aggressive cancer about two years ago.. he was only three. Still get upset about it.
