  1. Ubantu

Ubuntu is a linux based open source OS and is very versatile if you know how to use it. However, I don't see any benefit to the sign industry especially because most, if not all, RIP software will not work on Ubuntu. I know for sure that Mutoh, Mimaki and Roland don't make drivers specifically...
  2. Mutoh Vj-1638 In Need Of New Head?

It looks to be an electronic issue for sure. I would check the head cables for damage/debris/ink splatter. If there is any doubt, change the cables. Sometimes corrosion happens to the leads and it is tempting to just clean them off. Just change the cables if there is corrosion. If the cables are...
  3. Need Help Encoder "red Light"

I would throw the old sensor back on and then run the limit position initialization. As long as that runs successfully, you should be good to go. If it doesn't work, the sensor is probably bad and you just need to find one that works. Sensors can go bad even when the light works.
  4. Mimaki Cjv30-160 Heating Issue

You may know this already but it's the only thing I could think of. When you set the heat setting from the heater button on the panel, it does not save the setting. As soon as the print is done, it will reset back to default. You need to set the heat settings in the setup menu and that will save...
  5. Need Help Encoder "red Light"

If the light is not turning on, it is defective for sure. You can't sense something that isn't there!
  6. Nozzle On Vj1204

I have played around with solvent ink and water. The ink coagulates on contact.
  7. Pole Pocket Using Hem Tape.

We have two banners that hang outside of our warehouse that are about 3' x 6'. We had one sewn and one we hemmed with hem tape. They both lasted until we decided to replace them which was about 5 years. The taped banner did not show any signs of failing.
  8. Question Dx6 And Dx7

The Roland VS series uses the DX7 print head and not the DX6 for sure. There is a lot of confusion around the DX6 and DX7 heads. Long story short: Epson makes all of the heads I am about to mention. The DX5 print head was/is a very popular print head that Epson licensed out to 3rd parties to...
  9. Question Mimaki Cjv30-160 Magenta Color Gone Before And After Print

A common issue with the CJV30 series is that the cap slider wears down over time and causes the cap to not line up properly with the head. I have run into this many times. Change the cap slider and I bet that will fix our issue. The symptom almost always happens on the magenta first. It's a...
  10. Mimaki Jv3 Ink Question

Absolutely. Keep it docked and don't worry about it. With a JV3 I would be comfortable leaving it for a few days. I have recovered heads from newer machines that sat for 6 months with ink in it!
  11. Design Software To Sign Software

Why flatten an image before sending to the RIP? I think it is much more professional to send an non-flattened EPS or PDF. Flattening images basically takes all of the advantages of vector and throws it out the window. It adds unnecessary pixelization, makes the file unnecessarily large and which...
  12. Roland Vs300i Adding Epson Ink

I think you will be disappointed in all the work you do to convert and then see that the oranges are basically exactly the same brightness. I have installed machines with orange ink and compared the prints to CMYK prints. They are virtually indistinguishable even after profiling etc. Most likely...
  13. Orajet 3641

I have a lot of customers who use it. Mostly they use it for 4'x8' real estate signs, coro signs, and one customer uses it to label their pot products (see my location). Mostly temporary stuff. It's great cheap vinyl but it does fail within 3 years as stated. Usually it's the adhesive that fails.
  14. Need Help Installing Print Head Mutoh 1204

Out of all of the machines I work on (all Mutoh, Mimaki and Roland models) the ValueJet series heads are the easiest to install. I have many customers who have successfully installed their own heads. Find a tech manual for that model and read the install procedure to see how comfortable you...
  15. Need Help Mimaki, Rasterlink 6 And Pms Colors!?

It sounds like you have a good workaround but if you had your machine professionally profiled, you wouldn't have to do any of that. You could just pick a color and it would print correctly every time. Either way, if it works, it works.
  16. Need Help Mimaki, Rasterlink 6 And Pms Colors!?

Roland does seem to be better out of the box in my experience when it comes to color. I would call the manufacturer of your vinyl and ask them if they have any new profiles for that machine and ink type. That should at least get you closer. A lot of times the boxed profiles are old profiles...
  17. Need Help Mimaki, Rasterlink 6 And Pms Colors!?

On any printer you ever use, colors will not come out exactly how you want them to unless you create your own profiles. It's as simple as that. This is a common issue in the sign industry. Boxed profiles are good enough to get you started making signs but if you want to be hitting exact colors...
  18. Is this a blade offset issue?

Just a little note on offset settings: Offset is the physical distance between the tip of the blade and the center of the shaft usually measured in less than a mm. The offset setting should be indicated on the blade packaging. If you have to change the offset to a different setting that is...
  19. DX7 printhead

The DX6 print head is often confused with the DX7 but they are not the same head. The DX6 will not work on your machine. The confusion stems from the fact that a lot of online sellers mistakenly call the DX7 head a DX6. I'm pretty sure the reason is that Roland, Mutoh and Mimaki all skipped the...
