  1. Well it had to happen didn't it

"apologies, sir, but everything we create is custom and have a shop minimum of $150 to cover our setup time. BUT, if you like, I can make 2 of these for $150 or 4 of these for $240... if you really want me to beat that estimate."
  2. Copyright Quandary

    over thinking it, i believe.
  3. Any way to create tiles in Photoshop?

easiest way I can think of in Photoshop, is to setup rulers/guides for your tiles and then crop>save>undo>crop>save another>etc. rip software tiling, however, for the win.
  4. Help! Printing to Mimaki JV3-160SP and RIP questions

    Rasterlink download via Mimaki website
  5. Off Gassing - recommendations

i'm a big fan of slowing down the print speed, to allow more "air time" before the print hits the roll. I'll usually stand the roll up on end and open up the "gills" a bit, and let sit overnight and never an issue laminating/applying in the a.m. only issues with laminating right off the...
  6. knifeless tape

better question: can you use knifeless tape on a woven wallcovering material like Ultraflex wallpaper or phototex? (if not familiar, it may as well be banner media)
  7. Newb question.....Ok, I'm not a VEHICLE GRAPHICS person.

nice clip-work :) upgrade your material for the guy going over the molding to a high bond / low-energy plastics vinyl and you'll be fine.
  8. Buying a L26500 or L28500 and RIP.

my 26500 with onyx rip, so good.
  9. Looters in Boston,

...swirl our drinks, ra ra our teams, and post rants on s101. Political rants, more like propaganda, accomplish nothing but aggravate lunatics that are prone to acts of terror such as these. Al-Qaeda can twist a good tale, as well.
  10. Looters in Boston,

hardly "looting". people in charge of handing out jackets were blown up or looking after their own. merchandise distribution was just simply forgotten about. looks like people are just making a grab for their gear that comes with the marathon package.... and most likely a few randoms thinking...
  11. Double Sided Rigid Media?

dbl.sided print on thick paper stock and laminate
  12. Print heads wanted

I have 6 DX4 printheads, but not letting em go for nothin'. 4 still printing about 65%+, most closer to 100% but varying degrees of overspray. One has a scratch across the printhead and only printing 50%, and one has a bad ribbon cable seat and will only print 50% (ink dripped down into it...
  13. Backlits, How are you doing them?

digital print on clear with digital print/lam on white trans. applied over the top. perfect, day or night. otherwise its just stock trans. vinyl colors.
  14. What to do with Blades?

if a client bleeds on our equipment, they are responsible for replacement.
  15. Braille labels?

looks shotty, imho. like adding an office manager's name to their room identification with a label-maker. I make ADA signs, and have had clients that would rather do most of the work themselves, so they order unfinished signs with the raised braille/lettering and do all the painting/assembly...
  16. basic sign proficiency

i treat every new employee like an idiot and teach them from scrap. If they have conflicting processes, show me, and I'll pick it apart if I feel necessary. test, however, never heard of one. fastsigns/sign-a-rama guys can chime-in if they like, but I bet they do the same. one employee...
  17. Packaging Large Gatorboard / Ultraboard

in a box! :) really tho', for shipping questions, I just Q&A my UPS delivery guy when he's at my shop everyday.
  18. Prints lifting

i LOVE Arlon! If I'm not mistaken, DPF 4560 is a 5year intermediate calendared vinyl. should be just fine for nearly any flat application. Curling edges? its not the material, its you. ...or at least your selection of material for the application, or improper application, or oversaturating...
  19. What's your biggest signmaking mistake

Planet Video. massive, rapid growth, lots of signs, and then BK's/sells-out to Blockbuster. I learned the value of a down-payment, at the age of 14, and how easily illuminated sign cabinets can be regraphic'd/discounted rather quickly when you've got a LOT of em :)
  20. LED layout

+1 jhill's 3-4" suggestion also, your LED supplier will usually be happy to provide you with a suggested amount of LEDs (and even layouts per letter/cabinet) for optimal illumination.
