  1. illustrator annoying mystery

thank you both! I edited my last post, probably after you opened it... but in 9 it is in the "view" menu. now that those issues are fixed... ...maybe someone can help with another less annoying issue... which just moved up to be the most annoying illustrator issue. in my...
  2. illustrator annoying mystery

ok... I'm making some progress.. Thanks Fred! I never used "smart guides" (knowingly anyway) but in preferences, under "smart guides" there is no on/off choice so I never thought to make changes there. However there is a "snap tolerance" & on Tony's old machine it was set to 4pt. I changed it...
  3. illustrator annoying mystery

I have version 9 loaded on 2 workstations & CS2 on 2 (I have 2 licenses) I mostly use 9 & only use CS to open newer files. I have a strange occurance that has been bugging me for months since my employee left & I'm using his old workstation more often because it's on the second floor where...
  4. HELP! Problem printing on magnet material!

that sucks! I would never print on magnetic... "a sign supplycompany"? ...like the one who sold you the printer? I hope? ...as I said, I would never do it, but people do. It can be done, but it can damage something more easily then just about anything else you would ever put in there...
  5. GBC Laminator... I need to learn the finer points of adjustments

thanks guys... interesting, you both have reverse wound lam. I can see how the lam rolling down off the top of the roll creates the situation where that chrome bar redirects it, while smoothing it out, which is what it's there for... but on my forward wound roll, that seems to be why my tech...
  6. Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium

When you say you "found a copy", I'm not sure what that means, but I just thought I'd mention that if you mean found a second hand copy... just be careful... as you probably know, Adobe requires a signed transfer of ownership if you purchase second hand software. I did this myself many years ago...
  7. GBC Laminator... I need to learn the finer points of adjustments

sure, let's see how jeff does it. I did change the routing of the kraft paper.. but I am still routing the lam as shown. Always open to learn the better way... especially when something is not working as well as it should.
  8. Bitmap in AI, Help Please!

if it is just to be tinted in one single color on a background, is the entire sign or flyer or whatever you're making also going to be that color? Is it a rectangle? If you draw a rectangle the size of the background, fill with a color, & assign transparency in illustrator... you could have a...

  11. GBC Laminator... I need to learn the finer points of adjustments

irionic to see this post again today... ...yesterday was spent organizing the third floor in my shop, (which is the hellhole attic/storage warzone, as well as the most likely place I usually have room to throw a panel on some horses & coat it out with some 1-shot) and then assembling a 10' x...
  12. Flexi not reading gradients in .AI & .EPS file

what do you want to do with it? Print it? CS2 has a lot of different features that could produce effects I would never expect Flexi to import, but a I export all my print jobs from illustrator or Photoshop as RGB .tif files & they work fine. I just save the one vector I might need for a cut...
  13. Bitmap in AI, Help Please!

post the picture, & spell out exactly what you need to do... like for example, apply 6 different colors in several places each, ...or is it simply changing from greyscale to.. "tanscale" for example... shades of tan, lighter & darker according to the gradiations of the original? This would...

  15. Mimaki JV2- 130- any opinions?

yeah, I think you'll get a lot more hits searching JV3 I have the JV3 160sp I love it. I think I looked at the 30" machine first to get my brain talked into that price tag & use of shop space first... then once I had mentally committed that investment, I started working on myself to justify...
  16. casmate pro allternative

nope, mine was considered a "crossgrade" also, & I kept my key. Signguy95, whate software are you talking about moving from serial to usb? Not Casmate are you? I never knew of them having a USB key, did they? Signworks, I got a copy of Inspire, & attended a training seminar... but I...
  17. Flexi 7.6 and large PDF file

hard drives are cheap compared to your time being wasted on a regular basis. Photoshop benefits from having a scratch disc. A 30 gig drive wastes space in my opinion, get at least one bigger drive, or get 2 bigger drives. I would suggest a dedicated rip station. That computer would only...
  18. casmate pro allternative

I was such a casmate addict that I went for a nice crossgrade price to pick up a copy of Flexi Sign Pro... but then I left it gathering dust on the shelf for years afterwords & still just used casmate. Fred had to encourage me to discover what a good program it was when I'd make that confession...
  19. round corners....illustrator

I wouldn't call that a radius. All your corners are sharp. If you mean the upper center section, you want to weld a segment of a circle. draw the circle, draw the overlapping triangle, then draw a square around the top portion of the circle that you want to keep. Open the "pathfinder"...
  20. round corners....illustrator

also, under the edit menu>preferences, you can set the preferred (default) radius, so if you need to draw several with the same radius... that can be your default. I usually and up doing the alt-click method also, so I can enter exact height & width parameters... The prefs. method is handy...
