welcome to signs101. heavy letters, much like most if not all of those on that website, require drilling studs and stand-off hardware. doubt any of those signs are simply glued to the wall....

  3. JV3-160. 0% print after magenta dropout woes

OH MY GOD YESSSSS! :U Rock: ENCODER SENSOR was my issue. cleaned and printing 100%!!! strip was pristine... couldn't wrap my mind around it. and then I noticed how easy it is to remove the sensor, so i gave it a shot... the back lens the light shines against (the other-half of the "U"...
  4. JV3-160. 0% print after magenta dropout woes

    what variables am I looking for in an encoder test? I run it, and I just get a few XYvariables and E0.0 " #Encoder m1960.2 E.0.0 " -> "Mc 0.0 Ec 0.0"
  5. JV3-160. 0% print after magenta dropout woes

confirmed, not the "kinked" sliderboard ribbon cable. disassembled the printer and luckily there was a 6th ribbon cable run through the printer that was connected at the motherboard, but not connected at the sliderboard-end. swapped #6 with the kinked cable at the slider board and...
  6. JV3-160. 0% print after magenta dropout woes

i'm assuming this is the same as the data swap to the printheads, just one series of cables-up? top cable controls all 4 lines of cables/printheads below it?
  7. What should I charge?

material plus your standard upcharge, plus your labor rate, plus tax... and a 6pack.
  8. intermittent faded streaks

ink starvation. got an issue there with your ink supply, dropping out & kicking back-in. airbubble in the ink-line, cracked manifold, bad connection, bad pump, bad karma... its in there somewhere. cheap fix, if you can pinpoint the source of the issue.
  9. JV3-160. 0% print after magenta dropout woes

-tail-end of a large project, and magenta starts printing 25% on 12/16 passes. --cancel print, run test draw, nozzles @ 100% -ink supply not refreshing. confirmed by drawing ink from below capping station, and hearing hissing noise. --replaced damper, no more hissing, ink flowing...

  11. Weeding 3M Ij180Cv3-10 & 8519 luster Lam

+1 to WB's tip: be creative... just weed out the centers of the letters, and cut a box around the small lettering to be applied. apply the WHOLE BOX, and weed out the negative after you've gently applied to your substrate. pre-weeding the centers saves you a headache when it comes to this final...
  12. Cold vs Heat Assist vs Hot Laminators

i use cold with heat assist... i couldn't imagine having anything else. silvering comes out with the torch, of course, but why not have that good feeling that comes from it never being there in the first place? hot laminator? meh. bit much I think.
  13. Head alignment problems ?

that's a lot to handle. multiple issues blow my mind, as it is so much easier to diagnose a single issue assuming that everything else is working correctly. i'd spend the $$$ for a tech to get you set up proper. I'm also assuming you know how to run proper maintenance, removing built-up ink...

  15. How to ultrasonic clean my head and is this a good idea

if you can't get butyl carbitol, just go with the butyl cellusolve that SW or any chemical supplier more commonly has (along with the acetone, of course) its been noted that cleaning solution is "better" with carbitol in the mix, but I've been running the acetone/cellusolve mix for the past two...
  16. Giving away free banners and stands.

+1 to if you say "donated by" you're just increasing your donation requests. if you do it, just make an ad, and make it a good one... 18"/42" sounds better. 1' isn't much. also make sure to stop-in and see if they haven't "accidentally" stacked cases of product in front of your ad space :)

  18. Why I will never buy another HP printer again. L26500 nightmare

+1 although I'm a hypocrite, recently purchasing an HP L26500, but I am still currently running my Mimaki JV3-160sp and will be alongside the new printer for quite some time. this thread has me worried... hopefully I'll have better luck wrangling this beast starting next week!

  20. "Odd" request - new standard for unisex restroom ADA signage

there's my start! thanks John! as far as a disclaimer/sign off, I'm not really worried about it, and I've got an email trail to back me up and these are the people that would raise a stink anyways. I'm sure the general population of students will be like "wtf" "ok, i guess".
