  3. .plt to .eps conversion

I'm going to try that tomorrow Fred. I'd forgotten about this thread I started, and just now stumbled across it again. Hopefully I have that software...we'll see if good ole' Win95 comes through. Do they make a newer version? I was thinkin' about plugging the hard drive in to a new computer...
  4. Where to start?

As a guy who jumped into a sign business w/ just a little "apprenticeship"...make sure you know a lot about your equipment before you buy it. If you don't do that, (which you don't always have that option) buy it from a good company that will come set stuff up, and provide tech support for the...
  5. A sign to ponder?

Let me re-phrase it then...I'm all about the idea of supporting the little guy, but it's hard to spend more on the same thing from somewhere else. I have people come to me all the time and say...I can get this for this price here, can you do it for the same...and I just have to say yes to get...
  6. A sign to ponder?

I think we've known about the problem for a while, but it's hard to not go to Wal-Mart, when it's got what you need, and it's cheaper. I mean, I'm all about supportin' the little guy, but bottom line is, we all feed our families and take vacations etc. by savin' a little every now and then...
  7. When people talk about "bad" fonts....

Make it lines, ungroup it, then expand all your paths, you'll be all set. Sometimes you've gotta deal w/ goofy fonts.
  8. Purchase supplies local or have them shipped?

Sign board is about all I can get locally, and it's not really too local, it's about a 45 minute drive. So I have to order everything in, but, get it from Fellers, and it's still free shipping.
  9. Insurance question

We're covered. It's like $700 a year for both of my company's, and I'm thinkin' it's coverage up to like $1,000,000. Pretty decent deal. Of course, never used it, and never inted to...but, waddya gonna do.
  10. .ai and pdf

Yup, has to be Vector originally. An easy way to tell is if you zoom in on it all the way in Acrobat, you shouldn't see any fuzzy lines, should all be crisp. If you zoom in, and you lose the quality, your gonna prob. have to trace it to get it to work.
  11. Hey, Newbie Q, Startup with Laser Printer!

Yup, we've already talked about it, but it's just time to do a little more homework before the next purchase. There's a lot more to cutting a graphic out than the normal eye would think.
  12. Everything but cyan gone?

Yup, hang the sign in the window and head home on days like that.
  13. Start up with an Inkjet

If your gonna spend several thousand, just do it right. You don't wanna be limited on your sizes by your machine, and you don't wanna be splicing stuff all day long either. Solvent's the way to go in my opinon, but don't build a ship in the basement either...make sure it's big enough to handle...
  14. Lowe's Logo

If you just need the logo...here it is. The best site ever for logos. http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/search/?query_id=17512291&page=1&brand_id=64630
  15. Prints Mounted to Coro Curling...

I use 3651 more than any other vinyl...haven't had any problems lately. I just ordered a new roll, and I'm about to open it. I'll let you know if I have any problems. Like they said earlier, if it's a project that you can leave 1/4 - 1/2 all the way around it, that'll help you some.
  16. Print to Cut, and actually cutting correctly.

What kind of plotter are you using? On my Mimaki, it's called Half Cut, and it's in the manual. It walks ya right through it.
  17. $5000 startup

Yup, if you have no vinyl experience, you'll find out very soon, that graphics all come down to lines, and nothing else. I've worked w/ many graphic artists, and they can't believe the difference between designing something, and then being able to cut it. It's a lot to learn until you get the...
  18. golf cart wrap

Buy a crapper one, and then sell it once you wrap it! Make some money, then do it again.
  19. Laminator shipping

You can get that upstairs...we got a 54" Mimaki Printer & Plotter upstairs. I'm livin' proof it can be done. It took 8 friends, but it can be done.
  20. ValueJet refill inks

I'm w/ Sign-Man. Enter at your own risk, I'm not gonna wreck my machine. I had a guy want me to print on some semi tarp canvas, and he didn't understand why I didn't want to try it. Well, he wanted a big banner, at a cheap price, and wanted me to use his material...NOT HAPPENIN! It's not...
