fairly good results with Citrus Adhesive remover (goo gone). Won't get it all, but it has helped me blur the hard-lines the letters leave behind. i've heard good things about "Ghost-Off" but have never seen it in action.

i think the proper answer to the op, is that for $6k... you're not really getting much at all. you MIGHT be able to pickup a decent printer via ebay for under $8k, but your first set of ink costs you $1k and techs charge over $100/hr just to come look at it, plus travel, whatever more...

doubtful it was the ink. air in ink lines could have easily caused this.

heck, just make your own? doesn't have to be seamless tile, just make a rectangle and add 3 layers of vectored noise in different colors.

pictures? is your test print contaminated? are you sure you're printing 100%K and not just setting up 100%K printfile but letting your profiles change the formula to CMYK%'s?
