  1. Q: How would you do it?

Track and either individual letters or a whole word on a clear panel. Magnetics means you hafta have a steel background. That could get very heavy.
  2. When your logo needs a pinch runner

My Dad had the same treatment. He was forced to become a rightie. When he was alive, he could write or print with either hand.... and both very legible. My brother, however was truly ambidextrous. He could also write backwards and all kindsa crazy ways with either hand. I do most things...
  3. Question Just wondering..........................

Well, I've already thought about the purchase of Greenland and it's a very good and sound idea. Truman wanted to buy it back after WWII and Peary long before him, not to mention back around the Civil War it was attempted to buy the place. It only makes good sense for the US to have it. As...
  4. Aluminum Pole Signs, need help

Very good point. Around here, whether a sign is flush mount, perpendicular or pole mounted, it must be 10.5' to the bottom of the sign from the ground.... up. Monument signs, free standing and real estate do not fit in with those specs.
  5. Question Just wondering..........................

When some of you post up...... looking for a particular font and someone identifies it..... do any of you actually buy these ugly a$$ fonts ?? In all honesty, about 98% of the fonts in question, they are horrible, hard to read and look ridiculous. So, do you waste the money buying it, or try...
  6. Another stumper

    I like happy endings.
  7. grainy yard signs

So blur out the info and show us a sign. They musta sent a picture to you.
  8. grainy yard signs

So, how does one go about having not one but several typos on a single order, if you pay so much attention to minute details ?? Granted, the customer is ultimately responsible, but unless it was weird names or foreign words, how does your staff make so many mistakes at once ?? Anyway, the OP...
  9. grainy yard signs

So, we've gone from grainy pictures to color matching. That's always been a problem.... but was much easier when we hadda mix the colors of paint, til it was correct. Besides, back then, ya didn't have people carrying PMS books around or relying on their memory for these things. They'd...
  10. Aluminum Pole Signs, need help

Sorry, I thought there would be a pole going up the back of it giving it support. Think about it, you want to put on a light standard a SOLID sail which won't let any wind or breeze pass through whatsoever. Those standards are meant to sway in the breeze or wind, but not with that much...
  11. Aluminum Pole Signs, need help

54" is too wide to hang on a single 2" post, unless the 54" is up & down. In that case, .080 aluminum would be fine. Just did 3mm ACM double sided on a 2" square tube and it was a little wobbly, but the customer already had the post there and did not want to pay to have another one put in...
  12. grainy yard signs

This....... all the way. Unless the picture supplied was p!ss-poor quality, there is no reason to print a grainy picture whether its 2" from your nose or 20' from your face. How do you explain those theories to the people walking up the sidewalk to look at the house ?? Oh, just look at the...
  13. picture of my work

What........ the seagull or the tilting sign ??
  14. How would you handle this situation?

Better it took place now, before it all went down and you hadda argue to get paid. In my opinion, you did it professionally and fairly. I would just send them an e-mail in about a week and ask if there is any update ??
  15. picture of my work

Does it spin, too ?? Doing a 360 would really be cool.
  16. Project Management - Pricing

You say you do lotsa installs for other sign companies. How many do you turn down ?? How many do you land ?? How many do you not hear back from ?? How many just yank your chain ?? how many are hard to deal with ??
  17. Project Management - Pricing

You do realize, most of the chance taking is..... if something goes wrong ?? Should something go wrong, you now need to get new permits and licensing for wherever something went wrong and hopefully there won't be too many at a time. You'll also hafta replace whatever materials went bad or got...
  18. Question Avery Dennison® V-4000 Retro-Reflective Films Printer Compatability

You say that is reflective media ?? Why is it so grainy looking ?? Under a jewelers loop, it might look like that, but not normally. Also, we've never used Denatured Alcohol to wipe off vinyls of any kind. Isopropyl, but we wipe it on and keep wiping til it is totally dry. We never let it...
  19. Sign gone wrong - looking for answers as to why

Not really sure what happened to that, especially if it's flatbed printed. I would maybe go to the customer and tell them, you've seen their sign and you have NO clue as to what is going on or even why it's deteriorating so quickly. If they'd like to consider looking into your products you'd...
  20. Sign gone wrong - looking for answers as to why

The way it's turned under on the picture with the blade of grass waving around, it doesn't look like any rigid substrate. It appears the ink is having some sorta reaction to whatever it's on. Almost like it's being cooked off. Have never seen inks blister like that. Do both sides look alike...
