  2. Dragster Wrap

the 290 optically clear material (for backlit signs and micro perf) is a bit glossier (i think) than the 290. you could try that, but more expensive.
  3. film options other than Avery!?

oracal 3951 is good, but the 3751 is cheaper and works really well on most all types of surfaces. i find it to be the easiest wrap material i have tried to work with. easier to apply than 3M for me. I also think the Oracal profiles in VW work great.
  4. Help please : How to wrap edge of wing. Image Included

put a few relief cuts just to the outside of the edge so the vinyl can overlap itself slightly on the other side of the area you are wrapping. this alleviates those folds and you can't see the cuts on the backside.
  5. XC-540 Canvas Printing

Printing photographs on canvas for a client on our Roland XC-540. Anyone have any tricks/advice for getting the best print possible? I use Solvent Satin Canvas profile, on "Artistic" (the highest quality setting) usually switch to perceptual instead of colormetric to get less blown out colors...
  6. help on tricky install

I am doing a partial wrap on a new ford van. it is handicap accessible from one side, and so has large metal pieces coming out of the side of the vehicle that hold the door against the side of the van when they are open. We already did the other side, and it came out great. Just wondering if...
  7. 2011 FORD Transit Connect vehicle outline

this should help this should help. i have done a few of these and had this laying around. it wouldn't let me upload a very big file.
  8. Cast Vs. Calendered

Great feedback, everyone. thank you. Yeah, it has worked in the past. We have only been around for 5 years, but none of the prints i have done on 3165RA have faded, peeled, or been anything but perfect in that time frame. I think i get away with it because of the cool mild climate, in part. We...
  9. Cast Vs. Calendered

Doing 15-20 full color 22X79" signs on metal for a new client. I live in a very mild climate (think SF or Portland, Oregon) with not a lot of direct sunlight. These signs will be outdoor, exposed to the elements. I have always used Oracal products, and usually go for the 3165RA laminated with...
  10. vector gradient color drop out

Thanks! That sounds like it would do the trick. I will try it and post my results.
  11. vector gradient color drop out

I design in Ai CS2 and CS4 and rip with versaworks to a roland sp-540v that is about a year old. pretty frequently, I have an issue where one color of a vector gradiant doesn't print. If i have a simple design with a green to red vector gradient as a background, many times it won't print one of...
  12. Solvent Printing on Static Clings

static cling material always causes motor feed error because it sticks to pinch rollers. i put masking tape on pinch rollers for printing static cling and it totally solved the problem. I also use the matte cast vynl profile and it works amazing.
  13. Arlon 6500 Question

Hi. I have a Roland SP-540V and am running VersaWorks. I printed on cast white translucent vinyl from GMI yesterday and it worked great using Roland's Translucent Cast Vinyl profile. I just ran out of that and I am starting into a roll of Arlon 6500 Cast Translucent White material. I am getting...
  14. 18ml cutting issues

Not sure if the motor is adjustable. it definetely might be that some are just stronger than others. I just tried 2 cuts at 250 which wasn't deep enough and didn't really line up perfectly enough to be effective. then i tried one pass at maximum 300 and it is my best results yet. i am weeding...
  15. 18ml cutting issues

you are cutting this stuff with one pass? Incredible. I have a brand new roland 60 blade and haven't been able to get those kind of results in three days of trying with one or two cuts on any settings. How long are your prints? one cut doesn't seem to do it and two never seems to line up well...
  16. Illustrator to Versaworks-CutContour Not Working!

I have yet to get any good results trying to bring transparencies from Illustrator CS2 on a mac into VersaWorks on a PC. One thing that always seems to help is to export in a .pdf instead of a .eps. for me, it seems to work way better. Only difference is that with the .pdf you need the artboard...
  17. 18ml cutting issues

I contacted the company who makes my materials and they said to do it at 170 pressure with 7 or 8 as the speed and it will work perfectly. I did this, and it seemed to track way off course. Always hits dead on when i do it at 20, but gets off at slower pace. Also, it didn't even come close to...
  18. 18ml cutting issues

I have only been using my new Roland SP540V for maybe 6 months. I am making dirt bike decals which consist of a 6ml convex laminated with 12ml Pro Shield. 18ml all together. I have a 60 degree blade installed and have the blade pressure maxed out at 300 and still i am not cutting all the way...
