Without looking at it I would guess that all you need is a new cap top or a new damper on the head. Both parts cost around $40. Print heads cost $645. Do the math and start with the easiest solution first, as GTSTech suggested. It might be something as simple as being out of ink. Good luck.
Check wire tension.
Update the firmware.
Enviro check.
Different profile.
More/less heat.
A thorough manual cleaning w/ sponge/wiper replacement.
Check ink levels- if a cartridge is about to run out it will start to band.
There about a million things that I would try before messing...
Clean the encoder.
Change the cap tops.
When was the last time you changed your pump? Take the cover off that area and make sure that an old pump isn't busted, leaking ink all over the machine.
It will not only void the warranty, but many of the inks are much "hotter" than the Roland Ink and will wear parts out much quicker. Of all the machines I have serviced over the last 6 years (over 250), percentage-wise problems with the machines with bulk systems FAR outweigh the ones that only...
It might be the ink damper. It attaches directly to the head to regulate pressure in the line. If it is broken, no ink will come out.
Off the top of my head, every single other problem (besides being out of black ink) would also effect the cyan as well since they share the same cap top.
Change the cap tops. That should fix it.
It might need a new pump if you haven't upgraded that within the last year. They have a new design that was upgraded about a year ago. Good luck.
