Now I know you forgot to send a card, but today Canada Celebrates it's Birthday! Happy Canada Day! If you are Canadian and like me using today to get caught up on work, you have my sympathy. I hope you manage to get to a deck with a barbeque and some beer sometime today.
  2. Happy Birthday Queen Victoria!

Today is Queen Victoria's Birthday. A day when all of you who didn't replace your Monarch with a Bush or an Obama get a day off (Canadians... unless you are self-employed or live in Quebec). I myself have finished for the day and am going to sit on my deck with a beer. Please do not feel...
  3. dibond expansion?

I'm installing a 48ft long x2ft high dibond sign made up of 8ft panels. since it's still cold this time of year, what kind of expansion should I expect in the hot summer months? I'll be installing to a wood frame bolted to the building. Should I install with a gap?
  4. @#$% did it again!!!

I did it again, after printing a whole load of mesh banner a month ago on the backing side rather than the mesh, then cutting it down. I only realised my error when I went to hem and started peeling the backing off. I just did it again. Furious with only myself to blame. At least this time I...
  5. Happy Stupid day!

In celebration of the end of the week and the opportunity to catch up over the weekend, I printed half a roll of mesh banner. This morning I cut it down to send for hemming. Everything okay until I begin to strip off the backing film... Yup I printed 200 sq feet on the back of the roll.
  6. What to do?

For the first time in many years I don't have anything to do over Christmas. I think its called a Vacation. In the past we have always had a huge job, website to rebuild or renovation. This year nada. I have realzed that I have lost the ability to do nothing. After one weekend I am sick of TV...

To All the Canadians out there who did Thanksgiving weeks ago, happy "just another work day"! :Canada 2:
  8. The Old Switcheroo

What a week, this is by way of a rant. So I get a big order from a big corporation that orders from us a couple of times a year. I have a roll of the high gloss banner they have every year in stock and place an order with my supplier for a couple more rolls to complete the urgent-ish order...
  9. a new wrinkle on my laminator

I have a Royal Sovereign 1400 Cold laminator, had it about 4 years now. Just recently is has begun to wrinkle longer runs, it will start off okay, but after a few feet all along the width of the roller the feed will begin to distort finally ending in creases. I have tried adjusting the roll...
  10. NAS fileserver?

Paranoid as I am about data loss, I have been using Carbonite to back-up my data offsite. However Carbonite slows as you add more data and I'm now generating files faster than they back-up. I am also noticing a real slowdown in the time it takes to access files from my Netgear 2TB NAS that I...
  11. Cutter, Table or Wall?

me and my trusty Sooper Edge ruler are getting tired of cutting down all the Gator, coroplast and excel. I'm looking for a nice cutter that everyone can use (even the people who make me cringe when they pick up a blade). I have room for a table cutter or a wall, either the fletcher or the...
  12. small UV flatbed choice

Looking at getting a flatbed UV to supplement my solvent printer and stop outsourcing to suppliers that print on the "fast" setting. I have read the brochures, shook sales hands, but I need some real world advice. My constraints are: Price, sub 100k (as sub as possible) Size, has to fit...
  13. Versaworks timeout

I have just reinstalled versaworks after some corruption and every second job prints half-way, stops then drops out of the production queue like it was completed. The VP540 just halts and shows "processing job". I'm thinking it's either the printer or the nework because I have tried three...
  14. UV flatbed?

I know this thread has been beated to death, I have gone through the archives and still have some questions; I'm looking for a UV flatbed to supplement my exisiting roland vp540 solvent. Sub $100k (ish), good colour and durability, decent front to back register and not too tough learning...
  15. Font manager?

Having finally been forced to upgrade my XP to system 7, I had to kiss goodbye to my beloved Adobe Type Manager. A relationship I'm sure lasted for 15 years through both Mac and PC. Now I'm in font flux. What recommendations can you give for decent font management software that will play nice...
  16. Moving a VP540

I'm looking to move to a new location in the spring, I have the option of having a professional break down and move my VP540 or move it myself. 1. Am I a fool to even thing about hauling it myself? 2. is there a manual that lists what you need to do before it can be moved? Many thanks.
  17. CS5 blues

So in the last couple of months I have a few Adobe CS5 files sent to me, ask the customer to resend as CS4 no problem. I finally decide to bite the bullet and upgrade... Adobe did it again! there is a lot of candy floss, new icons and starter screen, but where is the upgrade? What useful new...
  18. laminator mounting problems with Coroplast

I have a Royal Soveriegn cold laminator, I'm okay with just about anything with the exception of full width (48 inch) mounting adhesive on Coroplast. there seems to be a slight gap at either end of the top rollers, this doesn't quite make an airtight seal with the adhesive and Coroplast, I'm...
  19. build it myself CNC

I have been toying with the idea for a while, but now with winter drawing on, I would like to have a crack at building my own CNC router. Not intending serious dimensional work, I would just like to dip a toe in without spending a huge amount of cash. Would anyone who has done this before...
  20. Super stuck Magnets

I have a customer I sold magnets to almost a year ago. Calls me up demanding that I pay to repaint their car because the magnets I sold to them are stuck fast (see pic). Now aside from claiming they took the magnets off every week, they say this stuck over the space of three weeks...
