  1. Vinyl on painted Wall

It's the new VOC formulations more than ANYTHING else Additives over the past years have affected adhesion, but not like this. These modern paints aren't even the same species. Seriously, we put up some 4'x8' Orajet prints high up on a smooth, fully cured wall, and the next morning they had...
  2. Vinyl on painted Wall

You are right, I typed too quickly! If you paint it yourself and want a No VOC paint, use Benjamin Moore. I'm amazed how little the vinyl industry has said about it. After way too much of my own research I found a tiny footnote on a single Oracal data sheet recommending against No VOC paints...
  3. Vinyl on painted Wall

Stay away from Sherwin Williams and most Low/No VOCs We've put thousands of square feet of cut vinyl and graphics (mostly 631 and Orajet) up over the years, and we've experienced first-hand the slowly-changing paint characteristics. Here's a list of general observations: Any no-VOC/low VOC...
  4. Summacut freakout: hardware or software?

Yeah, went carefully through all those steps when I set up the machine initially. It's only happened on panels with lots of text, so I started wondering about static buildup or somehow overloading the cutter's tiny brain with vector info.
  5. Summacut freakout: hardware or software?

No boxes, I checked that out. Just text. The line you see is the glitch. Blade suddenly pulled across and then cut a big line back through the entire job. Just before the glitch, the cuts became a little...off, then POW!
  6. Summacut freakout: hardware or software?

I'm a newbie who's done a lot of lurking here. Just set up my first plotter, a Summacut D60 with Signcut Pro. As you can see, the plotter started to lose its preciseness a bit just before going completely mad and ruining the job. I'm hoping the photo holds a clue to what's really happening here...

Wow, that's interesting. Could someone give a specific material recommendation? I don't have any real experience with laminate, thanks!
  10. Anyone know chromatec or similar process?

Rodi: Sorry to hear about your wife's illness. I'm hoping you could give me some broad wisdom, as you know the process firsthand. I can be guaranteed about 40 individual (one-off, 2 copies) small text panels a month (we already install the ones our clients are presently getting from out of...
  11. Anyone know chromatec or similar process?

If I can solve this, it means some sure business. Two of my clients have started ordering a product produced out of state for use on flat white walls. Basically, it looks like someone has painstakingly made a paragraph of text using the old Letraset or Chartpak rub-on transfer letters. There's...
  12. What smartphone apps can't you live without?

I have an iphone, but I think at least the first 2 below are available for BB and Android. Evernote: remote storage and indexing of notes etc. that I make on the phone or computer. Here's what's coolest:Let's say I paint something on a jobsite. I snap a picture of the paint can--it's tagged by...

  14. newbie needs small text capability--plotter?

Gino: Last month I had $24k in the bank as my life savings. After helping my dear mother on some medical bills I have $400 left. At this moment I am poor, but normally I'm not too "cheap". As I wrote, we've got guys producing our vinyl right now and they're great until they mess up. They have...
  15. wait a minute thats my sign....

I gotta say. This thread has made me feel much better. The reactions to my Chinese plotter question seem downright friendly now. Even Old Paint's...

signmeup: Thanks for the extra effort. If I understand what you want, the lowercase "w" would be .375" high.

  18. newbie needs small text capability--plotter?

Old Paint: We aren't talking about a customer that owns a big pizza joint or something. OK, our biggest customer has provided steady jobs for 15 years (of which I've been involved for the last 3). They have never questioned a price, never asked us to stay till 11pm., never balked at a bill for...
  19. newbie needs small text capability--plotter?

Times Roman...I guess putting that in the "title" field makes it easier to miss.
  20. newbie needs small text capability--plotter?

times roman 1/4" wide is the smallest and hardest one we've needed for these clients.
