After finally getting a Tech on the phone, they came up with the same conclusion.

Yeah. That was what I thought too but the A isn't quite right for Algerian. The logo was designed by a relative of the customer. He swears it's not modified in anyway.

A customer brought me just the sides of a concession tent. The tent is made of banner. He'd like me to print and install his logo on 4 sides plus some additional logos of drinks, etc...

App tape is ok but there always seems to be a lot of little bubbles to work out. I agree that a night time install is probably easiest.

Cheaper option with clean removability is flexcon bus mark. It'll tent over rivets but it's inexpensive and removes easily. However it's not air egress.
It could be an encoder issue on the plotter. It's hard to say without actually seeing what you are talking about.
Anyway you could post a short video of the plotter when it's skipping?

I don't remember what Mimaki suggest but we change them every 3 to 4 months, sometimes sooner based on how much printing we are doing. I'd suggest changing them and see if that improves the problem.
Are you running Mimaki ink? I tried a third party and had banding issues.

Dumb question but have you tried restarting the rip computer.
Check your available hard disk space, if i let too many jobs accumulate in my print queue, i get weird error messages when the computer is running low on space.

I agree, that banner will probably bend that conduit as soon as you have a windy day. I'm not sure you could even get enough tension on the cable without making the whole thing sag.
