Good afternoon Signs101!
We use an inexpensive double sided foam tape for lightweight signs and letters, but the stuff I buy right now has a paper backer and one of my installers is always complaining about the backer tearing during installs. I see his point, but I just can't find something to...
Sorry! I missed this question last week...
A "sled" is a piece of board with mounting adhesive applied to one side that has the release paper left on - this make a surface that the laminate won't stick to. You put the piece of vinyl down on the sled, then take a piece of laminate cut a bit...
Do you use the exact same terminology if you were going to do something like a cut vinyl logo/hours on an interior door inside of a building? (Just you personally, not like "does one use the term")
The person who does quoting here told me today that she's going to move to using "first surface" and "second surface" when referring to how things are mounted/printed on clear material (acrylic, windows, etc...) and it got me thinking. Since I've come back to Signs101, I figure I'd ask you all...
What do you do if a customer wants the beveled edge? We have an Epilog laser and Roland engraver and I've had to use the Roland on a few jobs to do bevel cuts. (We do use the Roland to do washout/engraving on the color core stuff.)
I buy the old AGFA adhesive through GrimCo...it's not on the website any longer, but they still have stock. Will need to find a new glue at some point, but it's still around for now.
Sentinel OptiClear w/PermRL 51x150FT Adhesive (1055016). A roll is $400-500, so it's not like it's CHEAP, but...
We use an optically clear second perm/perm adhesive (the kind of second surface print mounting) to mount the printed sheet of acrylic to a sheet of blank acrylic before routing. This has worked really well for us so far using a wide variety of mounting methods - even pin mounting! The rolls of...
We use Seal Easy Dot quite a lot - it's easy to install and removes cleanly. Our shop runs it on a Vutek UV curable printer so we print image all the way to the edges without any curling problems - not sure how it responds to solvent or latex inks. Seal doesn't recommend the Easy Dot for outdoor...
Good afternoon Signs101 - long time, no see!
Since the shop is...a bit slow right now, I've been working on SOPs for production and finishing and I've come across one of those subjects that is apparently a controversy here in our shop - where to place grommets in relationship to the webbing in...
I've worked with both and currently work for a company that changed from a Graphtec to a Summa. The Summa is way nice. Given the choice, I'd go with the Summa. To be honest, it could be that the graphtecs I've used have been old and I've always had the chance to work with new Summas...
We used to work on wraps in a non-climate controlled garage space and our new controlled space is SOOO much better. Doing wraps in the hot/cold can be such a struggle. That being said, there's a shop in the town I used to live in that wraps under a pop-up tent in his parking lot in the summer...
The ij480 is really an amazing vinyl for things like this, they sell a matching laminate (8548), and we dropped the money to buy the 3M textured surface applicator because we had a big job that let us work the cost in....
I've used velcro for this kind of thing quite a bit, the biggest problems we've had from it from would be from not wiping the boards/wall down with alcohol before applying and not letting the adhesive cure. If you can stick everything down, then let it sit before putting the boards up (to let...
We use the "Tuff Tape III Vinyl Banner Hem Tape" for most of our hemmed banners, but will use the Orafol Orabond 1397PP for longer term things. I've had good luck with both of them, if you want a tape that has more uses, the 1397PP is a better way to go - we use that to stick lots of things to...
Yes. This is exactly what it looks like to us at this point. Does the vision engraver insert automatically? I'm pretty fired up over this...we would have definitely spent some extra money or gone with a different machine if I'd known that this didn't actually function the way it's supposed to.
According to Roland, if you make the full sign in the EGX, you would:
-apply an applique
-rout the letters/symbols
-weed away the excess
-drill the holes for the braille
-the machine inserts the dots into the holes
I haven't actually seen the machine accomplish this yet - it has never made a...
Is there anyone here that uses a Roland EGX-600 to make braille signs? I searched around the forum, but mostly found a lot of people asking for sources of signs... Not sure if I'm just not having good luck finding threads, or if they don't exist. We haven't actually managed to get the training...
Hello Signs101!
I've been away for a long time, but this forum was so helpful when I was here last that I thought I'd drop back in. The company I work for recently decided that we would start making ADA way finding signage and it's been a bit of a struggle to get off the ground - we've some...
