  1. Screw you 3M.

WOW - 3M and Nissan, what a combo. Wait until the client has to deal with Nissan customer service and/or warranty claims... it'll make dealing with 3M seem like a walk in the park...
  2. Roland SP-300V Printing Orange Instead of Yellow

Check that the drain lines from the dampers to the pump and from the pump to the drain bottle are clear. That can cause ink to back up the lines. Cheers, neil.
  3. Eco-Sol Printing: Solid Colours - Tips/Advice

mate what printer are you using? what rip software/profiles? we have issues here with solid colours banding (a broad 20-30mm strip with colour drop out) intermittently. Humidity does have an effect, as do the heater settings and profile used. I tried fiddling with the feed speed but it didn't...
  4. RIP software

Mate you shouldn't have too much trouble with flexi/production manager messing up files - try saving out of photoshop as a flattened tiff and print that. Production Manager is pretty handy RIP software - you shouldn't need much more than that. Cheers, Neil.
  5. Floods in Brisbane, QLD Australia

where's that pic taken dave? its hard to believe the amount of pontoons boats etc being dragged down the river. we ahve friends in west end who are staying their house tonight!?!? can you believe that??
  6. Floods in Brisbane, QLD Australia

There are alot of people here having another sleepless night tonight... http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7nSsBwj4gk The worst is yet to come.
  7. over size alumalite

We use Dibond brand (Alcan Composite) 4050x2050mm sheets here; can get them in 4, 5 & 6mm thicknesses I believe. You may also be able to get the sheets in Alucobond (Alcan) as well. Both are European made products and really good quality. Our main shop sign is made of 2 sheets side by side...
  8. Suction cups??

We use Festool brand Geckos. Festool tools ROCK! Holds up composite sheet really well, you just have to make sure if its on cut vinyl that the pads are on one solid panel, no joins, as they lose the suction over a join. I wouldn't use them on anything too flexible but 4.5mm+ acrylic should be...
  9. Latest Install - Ceiling Graphics

I vaguely recall reading a question recently about mounting graphics to ceilings of stores - I thought I'd share our experience with an installation over an existing print in a surf shop here in Byron Bay. We originally installed 8 bays of prints measuring approx. 6000x5000mm when the shop was...
  10. Blizzard is a coming!!!!

That must suck! Don't mean to rub it in (well not much anyway) but its sunny and 25 degrees C here, I'm about to head for the beach for an arvo swim. The ocean temp is around 20 degrees C. I don't know how you do it really. I've been in snow only a couple of times in my life! And certainly not...
  11. Anti-Graffiti Films

Any physical barrier between graffiti and the print is going to provide some antigraffiti properties but I think the difference here is in the makeup of the film itself, in the PVF part of the film... or I may have been caught up in a big Dupont con and am top shelf prices for nothing... but I...
  12. Anti-Graffiti Films

We use them fairly often here, most commonly with street-level signage and around schools and public transport. I tend to stick to any of the Tedlar anti-graffiti films. They seem to be really UV resistant as well; I'm not sure if thats a planned outcome or a fluke, but its fine by me...
  13. Perforated Vinyl - applied to interior

No need to mess with the wipers... the stickers go as strips along the top and bottom of the windscreens with the brand/dealership name facing out. No laminate necessary either by the look of it. I just can't work out how they would have been printed.
  14. Perforated Vinyl - applied to interior

I've been asked by a client to produce or source some perforated vinyl stickers for application to the inside of truck windscreens. The client currently has ones supplied by Caterpillar and Western Star but he wants ones with his dealership name on them... we can supply ones for the outside of...
  15. drips on banner

We've had the same problem and found that it is thread from the banner, usually picked up from the cut edge of banner as the heads pass over it. The ink gathers enough to run down the thread like threeput explained and drops on the banner. It rarely happens with vinyl, and if so its because we...
  16. How long does your RIP take?

Every now and then a file does that here. Often it has got to do with the file name, and after I simplify/shorten/change it the file rips ok... Also try saving the file to your local computer (not a networked server) and add it from Production Manager, not from Flexi rip&print. My biggest...
  17. How to cut aluminum sheets?

We use a Festool System much like this one. Fits a saw and router and a vacuum cleaner as well, cuts through most materials we use in the shop. We also router out reverse sides of Alucobond for folding up into panels. Like Mainframe, we couldn't run our shop without it. Cheers, Neil.
  18. Sign Management Software

Yeah, who am I to talk, we still have the English flag in ours...
  19. Sign Management Software

We've just signed up for the trial of Signtracker and are in the process of setting it up. It feels like there are a few things to finish yet at the production end (there are a couple of 'coming soon' popups in features) but I have to say the support has been terrific so far. Any emails I've...
  20. Blue vinyl gone bad

Ha! Yeah I hear you. Reminds me of a client who opens an email to me: "Dear Neil, are you under a lot of pressure and perhaps needing a holiday?" This is after about 5 meetings with him and his wife, three site inspections and two quotes - and no deposit - and I fired off an email...
