  1. cs6 information

One last dig. Buy the standard suite. You won't need Dreamweaver and Flash unless you plan on doing your own web designs. That's a whole separate bucket of pain. But for little more then the cost of Illustrator and Photoshop you will get Indesign and Acrobat too. At some point, you're going to...
  2. cs6 information

Classroom in a Book is probably your best bet if you have no other experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. Once you have those under you're belt check out the WOW series by Peachpit Press. It's a tougher slog but worth it. I'd recommend getting the Classroom in a Book for Acrobat...
  3. Illustrator CS5 - autominimizing when I alt+tab between programs?

I use MACs and PCs at home. That's the first time I've heard of this. You could just hit command m and Illustrator will minimize to your side bar. Then when you want it back, click the Illustrator icon and it should jump back to full screen.
  4. Onyx Job Not Printing After Ripped?

I can only think of one reason why you had to reinstall. I run Onyx 7.3.2.; not 10 like you have. It does not play well with anti-virus. After my last reinstall, I talked to our IT guy about his network maintenance schedule. Now, I make sure Onyx is shut-down when any system maintenance is...
  5. AI CS5- how can I check the rez of a bitmap

    What signswi said. Shortcut: a
  6. Vertical Banding on Epson GS6000

Dumb suggestion on my part, but have you run a nozzle check?
  7. Ok you Apple Sheep !

I've used both for years. MACs have their issues same as PCs. You pick the appropriate machine for the task and you take your share of lumps no matter which way you jump.
  8. Color Correction and Matching Across Multiple Machines

I have not worked with a Seiko or Teckwin. Maybe next year :). Here's the catch, if they are not all being handled through the same RIP then the answer is most likely, no. Every RIP does things just a little differently. You might be able to push things a little closer if your workflow(s?) are...
  9. Onyx Job Not Printing After Ripped?

I'd need a little more info to give you an accurate answer. What's the print file? What's the machine? What version of RIP are you using? Maybe this would help. Depending on the age of your machine, it's internal software may not be up to honoring more advanced transperancy or script effects...
  10. I need to explain to a designer why we have trouble with certain colours

In the supplied PDF, what is the structure of the spot blue to gold blend? Is it simply a gradient or is it created with some form of transparent masks or something else entirely (hint: blend)? Is the spot blue defined as a PMS or has it been redefined as a spot CMYK blend? And finally, do you...
  11. How can I get this effect on the font?

Convert your text to outlines. Then convert the outlines to a compound path. Don't be shocked if it disappears. Illustrator often loses your fill and stroke info when you convert outlined text to a compound path. Next go to Object > Path > Offset Path. Be sure to check your preview button...
  12. Why would this happen??

Is this a cold or a heat assist laminate? If heat assist then you could be getting a little more chemical reactivity then you would with the cold. And a distortion can take place over night. It's happened to me; just not in the last 8 years or so. Out-gassing could also be the problem. Just...
  13. Variable Data Printing With Onyx/Wasatch

Very little. I prefer to export to single page PDFs and then impose an arrangement in InDesign or Illustrator. Not as quick as just dumping a multi-page file in the RIP; but, it's proof against all manner of file gremlins.
  14. Photoshop project.

Very nice. Check out the Photoshop WOW book by Peach Tree press. It's uncomfortably like reading a software manual at times. But, there's some incredibly valuable info in there.
  15. Print From Photoshop/Illustrator?

You can if your printer comes with drivers. Canon's a good example. However, if you're looking for consistent color management you employ a RIP. Supplied drivers are usually a blind process and written for the purpose of making attractive photographic images. That system won't allow for a...
  16. Flush pad

Well, duh on my part. You have Wasatch listed in your signature. As for any problems looming from your use of green ink - that's really going to depend on how much green you're using on a continual basis. Can you track the use of your ink with Wasatch?
  17. Flush pad

Hi Stoneandtle, please excuse the double-post. I messed up on my initial reply. I didn't see a RIP listed in your profile. So, I'll just tell you what I'm seeing in Onyx. Some materials simply cannot tolerate a full 100% green. I build my own profiles and I double check the curves data in the...
  18. Illustrator crashed while saving file

On the Mac, CS2 an Illustrator crash left a temporary file in the trash. You can sometimes open and rebuild your file from there. It won't have the same file name. It used to be a combination of letters and numbers with the .ai afterwards. Good luck
  19. Flush pad

Flushing On for GS6000 I didn't see a RIP listed in your profile. So, I'll just tell you what I'm seeing in Onyx. Some materials simply cannot tolerate a full 100% green. I build my own profiles and I double check the curves data in the linearizations of new profiles and existing (canned) ones...
  20. Low Tech Color Management

Just checked your public profile. You don't have a RIP posted. So, here's how I approach this and I hope it's helpful to you. I employ Onyx 732. I make custom profiles for each media. When I work in CMYK, I RIP to that internal ICC profile with Relative Colormetric intent. I also enable the...
