  1. Using Graphtec FC5100 with Wasatch

Did you set the Physical Connection to LPT1 or LPT2 (or whatever your parallel card is set to)?
  2. what liquid laminate for latex

We have an LX850 and use a water-based (i.e. meant for solvent prints) liquid laminate. Works just fine. Protip: Latex ink is not water based. It contains a fair percentage of water, but all that boils off during the curing process. Think of it as being closer to UV ink.
  3. Using copyrighted characters in advertising...

Put frankly, this is more a case of trademark infringement than copyright infringement. If they were printing Shrek and Spider-Man posters or T-shirts and selling those, it would be copyright. Since they used them in their own advertising (and they aren't actually selling licensed products) it...
  4. Agfa Grand Sherpa (Mutoh)

It sounds like there may be something damaged in the head. If the nipples are even slightly cracked, enough air can leak in to cause what you're seeing.
  5. do you use after market ink's

LOL, I just noticed this was a necro :P
  6. do you use after market ink's

Not necessarily. Case in point: Epson and HP. Ink revenue goes toward covering the subsidized printers they flood the market with.
  7. do you use after market ink's

Depends on the OEM. Leggett & Platt a few years ago signed a deal with 3M to make inks for their VirtuRS UV printers. The ink was a total disaster, caustic and hazardous to the equipment and operators alike. Every once in a while even the better OEMs have manufacturing issues with their ink...
  8. Heat Press Sizes

GCC makes pretty good cutters for the price. Any 24" cutter is really going to be an interim solution until you outgrow it, so I'd get that and save the money to buy something like a 60" Graphtec FC-8000 later on when you need it.
  9. do you use after market ink's

I won't disagree that JTeck ink works well. Compared to previous generation dye sub inks (such as Sensient and Manoukian), it will save you 15-30% ink with a good profile. But so will other current generation dye sublimation inks from other manufacturers. I just wish their marketing department...
  10. Expired latex ink

We talked with them about it when the problem first cropped up. They're now sending us fresher stock.
  11. Expired latex ink

In fairness to the operators, we had some flaws in our procedures that didn't become apparent until this point. You see, the policy defined had been to tag the ink on the day it came in, and rotate stock based on the date it was received. The immediate flaw with that system is that the...
  12. Expired latex ink

+1 for HP Smart Chip Technology :frustrated: And we can't just swap the chips for ones from recently used cartridges, since as far as I know there's no resetter for these chips. The other fun thing is that HP will void the print head warranty if expired inks are used. From what I know about...
  13. Expired latex ink

We recently had some issues where our print operators weren't rotating the stock of LX610 series ink properly. As a result, we've got a few boxes of inks that expired within the last month or two and can't be used. Any ideas on what we can do with it besides toss it? I suggested seeing if we...
  14. Sad news from Mutoh (RIP Chuck)

He will be missed. He was certainly one of my favorite contacts at Mutoh, thanks in part to his sense of humor. I think he was also one of the best technicians they had.
  15. Selling our flatbed cutter - looking at new Zund or kongsberg

I think in the future, if we had to do it again we would go with a Zund. You're right about the two tool slots. Like I mentioned, some of the tools only fit in one slot. We have an ancient Multicam 6610 Plus anyway, which has a ridiculously powerful spindle. If we have to route super-thick...
  16. Screw you 3M.

... huh? Were you wiping your a** with the stuff?
  17. Screw you 3M.

My shop actually decided to continue printing on the original IJ-180C with the crosshatch simply because it conforms better than the new IJ-180v3. We've considered switching away from 3M many times but have always wound up going back because, although other materials work well, it takes more...
  18. Selling our flatbed cutter - looking at new Zund or kongsberg

As a shop that runs a Kongsberg i-XL24, I can say that it appears that Esko started from a router and then expanded with cutting capabilities. Another shop here has basic Zund cutting tables; looking at the G3, it seems that Zund went the opposite direction, adding routing capabilities to a...
  19. Converting Roland FJ 50

The FJ-50 uses the 90 nozzle heads from the Epson 3000. It can print well, if calibrated properly, but 720 DPI output (the minimum required for quality) runs slower than molasses in a Minnesota winter. In other words, if you're just starting out, have no budget, and plenty of time, it could...
  20. Mutoh Falcon Outdoor II HEELLLPPP!

Ah... I should have caught that in the picture. The blades attached to the pinch rollers are a dead giveaway. Your printer is a Falcon Outdoor, not a Falcon II Outdoor. Make sure you specify what width it is (38 Jr, 46, 62 inches) when ordering the new belt. Most of what I said above still...
