What does it look like when you print it?
When you place an imported graphic many programs show you a low res "preview" for viewing on the screen that doesn't show transparency but the transparency will be fine when you print (or view high quality in programs that offer that option). EPS files...
Illustrator assumes that "white" is paper and treats it like an absence of ink. If you want white to act like a color you need to make a spot color swatch for it.
Make your gradient, then go to filters/pixelate/color halftone. For a black-only screen put "0" in for the cmy color values. Change the radius to make the dots larger or smaller.
Check your Document Raster Effect Settings (under the "Effect" menu. Make sure you have it set at a high enough res. Also check the flattening resolution (under "Advanced") and the color profiles (under "color management") in the print dialog box when you print.
Also - I see a lot of Illus...
Welcome from Iowa!
Don't feel too bad, I have a cheapie cutter too. It gets the job done for the much-maligned "dabblers" like ourselves. I leave the real signs to the real sign-makers and mainly do small banners and temporary signs for local events. (With the occasional "stickers" for friends...
All Mac here too. Got a new 2.66 Ghz Dual processor Mac Pro here at the "real" job. Only 2 Gb of ram but is still rocks! Have a Mac at home, too. Little eMac that's five years old and still going strong. My mom's on her third PC in five years.
You can also use "glyphs" in the newer versions of Adobe Illustrator (& InDesign). Shows an entire map of all the characters in the font and you can just click to insert the one you want. Great for Dingbats and the good script fonts that have alternate versions of all the characters.
I get mine through online or phone orders from Wensco. They're about 100 mile away and about the closest supplier to me. They'll ship it straight to me on their truck for orders over $150 and most of the time I get it the next day. I've gotten orders in less than 12 hours. There is a Fellers...
I get those all the time, too. Actually had the saleperson who gave it to me for the ad tell me "isn't there some button on your computer that makes it the right size?"
I can only ad one little factoid. Postscript language is a form of computer language primarily for printing. The main difference between a .ps or postscript file and an .eps or encapsulated postscript file is the addition of a preview file so you can see it when you place it in a page layout...
I just went through this. It's not too complicated. Go online and find your state's department of revenue. You can file online for a sales tax permit and find out what the rate is in your area. They'll let you choose how often you want to send them the taxes you've collected and you can even...
If you have Illustrator, there's a really nice library of free shirts on Adobe Studio Exchange.

For my "real" job in the newspaper business we pretty much stick with Adobe fonts. We just switched to all OpenType format when we got all new Mac Pros with the Intel chips. When we're dealing with short deadline and lots of different people turning out content we have better luck sticking with...
I usually turn on quickmask and then use my brushes to outline the area I want and once I get an outline I fill it in with the paint bucket. Then when you turn quickmask off that area becomes your selection and you can work with the selection as you would normally. You can copy the selected area...
