At what point do I change the platen gap on my epson surecolor 40600? What size media do I change it?

I have an Epson Surecolor 40600 and one of the options I have when printing is an Ink Density Percentage. I have never used another type of eco-solvent printer so dont know if there is a difference. just looking for some feedback on how to best utilize this feature?

I just recently purchased the new Epson surecolor 64in printer.. I have a 50in USCutter LaserpointII plotter. Is the Onyx print and cut rip software compatible with the LaserpointII cutter or should I start looking for a new/used cutter?
