  1. If out of ink, can you bypass it?

Photoshop black is: C75% M68% Y67% K90% Your rip will probably tweak it some, depending on the media profile, but to get good grays and black, you will be using all 4 ink colors. If the system were perfect, there would be no black ink at all. It is there to enhance shadows and reduce...
  2. Dude, where's my ink?

The waste bucket also collects the solvent cleaner you use for maintenance (nozzle wash, dis way wash, etc.) I'd bet our waste bucket is 75% cleaner, 25% ink when it gets emptied. The cleaner is tons cheaper than the ink.
  3. Dude, where's my ink?

I put in all fresh cartridges (SS2, 440ml) on Tuesday and the machine has been pretty much running non-stop during the day, hourly cycles at night. I'm gonna have to put in new light inks soon - 3 days later. Point is, the ink wasted in the ink cycles are extremely minimal. I think a couple...
  4. New Flexi Update (Service Pack) for 8.1v1!!!!!

Thank you. I'll be watching for it. Thanks again!
  5. New Flexi Update (Service Pack) for 8.1v1!!!!!

Sweet! Is this gonna be a download, or will we have to order a cd? What issues are cleared up?
  6. heater setting

I have found that if you set your print heater 2-3° cooler than the pre heater it helps with buckling. With that particular film, I have my temps set at 36° Pre, 34° Print with OEM SS2 inks. If you are using 3rd party inks, then these settings might not work for you.
  7. Print quality vs Setup, 6 color or dual CMYK

The fourth head is an old fried one. Just a dummy, more or less. Your problem doesn't sound like a damper problem - it sounds more like a profile (too much ink) or a media comp problem. I can't speak about Flexi RIP from experience, but I've heard it is not the best by any stretch.
  8. Print quality vs Setup, 6 color or dual CMYK

We have run 6 color 720 var dot 8 pass bi-directional for nearly 3 years and have never had banding concerns. Check your media comp settings with a ripped image, not the test mode. You can adjust them on the fly on your JV3 control panel and see if that helps. I don't think switching to...
  9. Poked in the eye again by Gerber

I agree with this for a lost dongle. By all means, charge for it. If I update my computer to Vista, or want the new features in a newer version, fine, I'll pay for the upgrade. But if I am happy with the software version I have purchased and the dongle simply stops working, I should be able...
  10. Poked in the eye again by Gerber

Flexi 8 will import Gerber files. Admittedly, I have not truly put this to the test, as the few G files I have are old and fairly simple. No EDGE info, just lines & curves. But they came into Flexi 8 perfectly. Flexi will drive the EDGE as well. It is a bit more complicated than Omega...
  11. Never thought I'd be asking a plotter question.....

I live in the Phoenix area and purchased a FC7000-75 from Interstate Electric in Feb. They are nationwide. Greggory also sells Graphtec.
  12. Edge 1 problem

It is possible that your roll of vinyl has misalligned holes. Does this happen with other rolls?
  13. Font from 1939..

Looks like Koloss with an altered 'A'
  14. Default preferences

Nope. Flexi's biggest downfall IMHO. I have several files which contain many different elements that get cut seperately at varying times & quantities. I've gotten to where I just cut however many I need and set the qty back to "1" before I click 'DONE". It helps, but I'm still a little...
  15. Took the plunge...Wish me luck!!!

If you are happy with your results, then that's what's important. You just may be using more ink than you need. When your ink restrictions and ink limits are optimumly set, you should be using more of your light inks than the others when using OEM inks. It could also be that your transition...
  16. Took the plunge...Wish me luck!!!

Yes, it is absolutely a profile issue. I was told a long time ago that when you are going through the light inks 2:1 or so, it was a good sign that your media profile was pretty dialed-in. I create all of my own profiles, as I have not had much luck with the downloadable ones from the various...
  17. Media to use in JV3-130SL

These all work nicely: Avery: DFM Heavy (SWEET!), DFM Cotton Intelicoat: Magic Canvas, GF Poly, POS Pro, FAB 6, GF Photo Dreamscapes Wallcovering - 11 of 12 different textures (Mache is too thick) Orajet products seem to print the best with SS2 inks Not crazy about Avery vinyls...
  18. Took the plunge...Wish me luck!!!

You would need to be sure you have a 4th working head to be able to switch from 6-color to 2x4-color config. If your machine came with 4 heads, you need to make sure the 4th one hasn't dried up before you try to make the switch. We have used ours strictly as a 6-color setup. We print...
  19. Cartridge weights

You might actually only need to update your printer firmware. We recently went to OEM inks from 3rd party inks and were told that our sensors were not actually disabled, but the printer firmware for the 3rd party inkset was programmed to not even look for the chips. Daniel at abetterink.com...
  20. Contour Cut using Mimaki FineCut 6 plugin for Adobe Illustrator

Hello, I have a problem that is driving me crazy and I can't find any info. I am having registration problems using Mimaki FineCut 6. I print using a JV3-160sp and cut with a Mimaki CG130-fx. The plotter finds the registration marks just fine (or so it would seem) but when I actually do the...
