Now we might be looking to finance a new printer. At what point do you give up on a machine that is no longer in warranty and is having indescribable problems? I love the printer but it is becoming more and more dated every year and I know it will have further costly issues down the line...

Any recommendations on where to find parts? I know the mark up from HP direct is outrageous and its hard to trust all parts sources... especially used parts.

Update: After attempting to work out the problem I found the name of the part missing the little rubber gasket is called a Primer Assembly. It was more likely than not bumped while the carriage rail was being lubricated causing the 2 cent rubber stopper to pop off and disappear into oblivion or...

Update: Thanks to another thread asking a similar question I was able to contour cut for the first time using the 4 point method and manual laser alignment. It might be slower than automatically scanning for the reg. marks but it is the only thing that has worked!

Romney: It worked. I have no idea why it would skew so far past the 4 points I had printed but after bringing them back and following the above mentioned steps it worked. I need to seriously thank you all for the comments. We have been hand cutting EVERYTHING we printed for the past 5 years...

Romney: Just tried it. I set it up on the first point. OK'ed it. It moves to the next point, 4 inches past where it should be.. and falls on the ground because it ran out of length. I'm going to try to resize my print or send something different. I have no idea why the plotter is moving itself...
