This is what works when my 540i does this.
Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. ... Now insert the ink cartridges...
I have the same setup as you except i have not purchased a stand alone cutter, but would do so if I could run the cutter after printing on the roland. Would be interested in what you find out.
I’m not sure what it is called but the technician that was at the shop last time said to flip the white switch up that is in front of the head cartridge when printing banners. This has helped tremendously.
