  1. I finally listened :) - Gino you were right.

I came to Signs 101 fully intending to DIY, members here tried to explain to me that sign making is more difficult than it looks. The plan to mount printed vinyl to substrate has been scrapped for a completed product printed direct to substrate. It's gonna cost a bit more but we're assured of...
  2. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

I'm good with the 040 styrene, It's going to be covered by vinyl and laminant so the yellowing will be going on out of sight. According to my supplier (based in Florida), in the tropics we don't get that wide temperature range, so the substrate won't get brittle as quickly. It will be good for...
  3. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

LOL I just meant climbing Mt Everest is difficult, you can get all of the forum help possible, and you'd still fail. Applying printed vinyl to a substrate is not, with help from folks like you, I can get it done. I get your vibe though Gino, this is a professional forum and I am not a...
  4. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

Florida has very similar weather. Okay, so you read the OP, and rather than share your experience with PVC & polystyrene for your fellow sign makers to have as a reference, you come to a thread that has had good discourse (not just for for my edification) to bully me? We're not climbing Mount...
  5. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

Sizes 24x36, 24x24 & 24x16. Mounted with double sided tape (mostly to stucco - suggestions on specific tape welcome). The areas range from rough & tumble to upscale. I found out that the New kids on the block do have a flatbed. The final quote I'm waiting on and probably should have been the...
  6. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

Nice one, I'll check the price on .080 tomorrow. Is it more expensive than Maxmetal?
  7. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

I'm going to give both options but I'd like to give an approximate time frame for the Styrene. Is 6 months a reasonable estimate?
  8. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

The signs will be mounted on a wall near the entrances to introduce a new product. Yes, we're definitely using polystyrene indoors but I'm having second thoughts about outside. I'm not sure how long the styrene will hold up.
  9. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

$35.00/sheet is good I'll check my Rep tomorrow. Any ideas on what to do with the Maxmetal unfinished edge?
  10. Affordable exterior wall mounted sign substrate around 1/8" to 3/16" thickness.

I understand that they will both yellow but will either PVC or Polystyrene last a year before yellowing? If neither of these can go a year without yellowing then I'll need to find an alternative. Coroplast has been specifically rejected because it is associated with those cheap roadside signs...

  12. Applying printed vinyl to presubstrate, a few questions

The Signman is the big dog here and they don't have one but Digiprint is the new kids on the block, I will definitely check them out, thanks.
  13. Applying printed vinyl to presubstrate, a few questions

I wasn't trying to work around my guy but with all of the talk about direct print, he's agreed that I should at least get a price. I guess I'll head over to classifieds and post the job.
  14. Throw away laminator

With that much stretch it seems imperative that we laminate or use a thicker vinyl, I'll ask for pricing on both options. Thanks
  15. Throw away laminator

We're using 040 outside and the signs will be wall mounted. In most cases the wall will be latex paint on masonry finish and in some cases it will be ceramic tile.
  16. Applying printed vinyl to presubstrate, a few questions

Awww man I thought we had a consensus on trimming. I'm looking at a sign we had done locally by a "professional" and it's done just as you suggest. That's why I asked. I 'm going to go with the majority on this on and trim. I believe it will look more professional and the time spent...
  17. Throw away laminator

Gino's right I am not a sign maker. I don't want to let on that I am. I could have come here acting like I'm a nubie with a contract in hand but I played it straight so that those that are willing to help "an outsider" can do so if they choose. We will work with a local sign company to...
  18. Throw away laminator

I'm giving the local guys a huge head start. The inquiry here is about exploring options. For us to take this on, the savings will have to be massive, otherwise we'll outsource the job. If we do take it on, we're still going to use one of the printers on this forum. All we will be doing is...
