  1. Digital Print vs. Cut Vinyl - Which Lasts Longer?

Sad to say, but we have become a disposable society. Everyone wants instant service. Many years ago when I hand lettered everything, I would sometimes have a two month backlog of work. Customers were willing to wait for quality work. In today's world they want it instantly. I've actually had...
  2. Trying to refurbish some old neon signs, need parts

I remember when every neon sign used glass insulator standoffs and pieces of cork between for separators.
  3. Appeal for us "Leftys"

I'm one of those crazy ambidextrous people. I normally write righty, eat lefty, cut my meat righty, peel potatoes and fruit lefty. I handlettered signs right handed. Back in the sixties and seventies when I was walldogging a lot, I started out left handed, painted thru the ladder, and then...
  4. Wind slit placement

Just figure a wind load calculation on entire banner without wind slits, then refigure accounting for wind slits area. Calculate the percentage difference and you will see how little difference the slits make. Just simple math and over 45 years experience.
  5. Lefty....or not?

I am ambidextrous. My wife is left handed. She can't even pick her nose right handed. My daughters are right handed. My sons are left handed.
  6. Lettering Shadows

When my dad was teaching me to letter over fifty years ago, he always considered the light (or sun as he called it) to be coming from the upper right. So the shadow was always to the lower left. He always offset the shadow from the letters just a tiny bit. Try the same letter both ways. You will...
  7. Gorgeous old photos

The photo of Douglas Dam being built in '42 is beautiful. This is in Sevierville, Tn. We have a home on Douglas Lake now. If you look at the background behind the crane on the left, you will see English Mtn. We can see all of the mountains from our back deck. It is so beautiful.
  8. That does is....everybody sell your printers.

We will be required to pay royalties on every job that we print using yellow. Or as an alternative, we would be required to buy so many whiffle balls per year
  9. Favorite Quote from a Customer Today

Many years ago, my wife, who then ran the commercial printing side of our business had a very annoying lady customer wanting flyers. After about 15 minutes of trying to please the lady, my wife gave her a quote. The lady says "I don't understand why it's so high. It's just a little bit of paper...
  10. Favorite Quote from a Customer Today

Several years ago, before caller ID, the phone rang. I answer. Caller: "Hey, remember that sign you did for me 8 or 9 years ago. I need another one just like it. Let me know when it's ready." Caller hangs up. To this day I have no earthly idea who called or what kind of sign it was. I guess...
  11. Madhouse on History Channel

Hey Round Man, Did you ever know a guy named Wesley Williams? He followed Nascar for years lettering race cars and such. Played a trumpet in bands that catered to the Nascar bunch back then. Wes was my first cousin. He died a few years ago. My Dad taught Wesley to letter many years ago. But...
  12. Newbie from NC.

    Welcome from Forest City, NC
  13. The majority of your applications: Wet or Dry?

Bought a gallon of application fluid in 1996 when I went vinyl. Still have a gallon left.
