I would have thought overlam is overkill to begin with? Are you cutting them on a vinyl cutter? could you create a perforation into the cut?

Do you do much laminating? as you'll be lifting off the machine anyway on those jobs.
Also depending you how busy you are you can only print or cut with one machine or have both running with two.

My heart would say small company but my head would say big company.
You'll possibly get a more personal experience from small company. But if there's any problems the bigger company probably has more swap with their suppliers and if required more techs to deal with problems faster.
As I mentioned ours didn't occur again after disabling all sleep/screensavers and energy savings on our rip but we're ethernet and RIP Center (RIP Queue) V18 with its own 4port switch.
I'd also be a BIG advocate of not updating any rip software unless essential. If it ain't broke....
