Anyone Making Water-Slde Decals?

I am looking for someone to make some water-side decals for a guitar builder. The decals have gold and silver in them.

I have a buddy that makes water slides for his guitar pedals that he builds himself. How many decals are we talking about. I'm sure he would make some up for him. I just know he won't do a large quantity.

Anyone with a inkjet printer can make waterslide decals, just purchase waterslide decal paper at your hobby store or online (ebay), etc. and print your design on the waterslide decal paper, spray few light coats of Krylon clear coating on the inkjet printed image, and when dry you will have your waterslide decals. :thumb:

Thanks Jon, but not with the gold and silver. That is something he definitely wants. Gold and silver like the Fender guitar headstock logos have.

Send me a PM if you don't find anything. They are very easy to make and you could easily figure it our yourself. It's just foils and heat laminator that he uses to make them.

There are many ways to make gold and silver on lazer and inkjet paper, just try Google!

There is another method. Just can't think of what it's called. You use foil and laminate the toner print to the foil and then the foil peals from the areas where there is no toner. You just have to make layers for each color.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the responses.

There is also a printer that makes them.... is it an Alps or something?

I would prefer to get them run off a printer than messing around doing them myself.

Anyone have one of those printers?

Those eBay decals are way too expensive. With the proper printer they should not be $14 for coloured decals a few inches in size...

I can print gold and sliver as I have an edge fx. Not sure if there is paper for water slide decals. Let me check and I'll get back to you.

ModelMark instead of waterslide

Have you heard of ModelMark? It's made for clear coating, like water slide.

  • Ultra clear – only 8 microns thick (1/3 of a mil).
  • TWO different adhesives available.
  • Uses are unlimited for transfers.
  • Specially made for the Gerber Edge®.
  • Excellent for tamper evident markings.

Here is a link for more info and a video:

Let me know if anyone wants a printed sample. It's really unique stuff.

PS: The Alps printer was a really cool dye sub printer. It was discontinued years ago.
