balck in backlit sign

i need to make a backlit sign where the background is black, and light doesn't come through the black part. teh wording is bright orange and there is some gradients in the logo. so i think i'll have to print on translucent everything except the black, then cut the black part and overlay it on the printed translucent vinyl. My question is if i just print the whole thing including the black on translucent vinyl will teh black block out like i want it to? or do i have to do an overlay to achieve this?

overlay - but I would actually underlay with a blockout vinyl because opaque black a) is shiny and b) isnt fully opaque

ok thanks. but if i put the black block out down first will it also block out the translucent print that i would put on top of it? guess i would just have to be dead on with the overlay?

I am afraid if you are "dead on" on the overlay, you will get light bleeding through. You really need to overlay the black by a "hair" to eliminate the light bleed through

i must be missing something. shouldn't i lay the printed translucent vinyl down first, with ample bleeds. then overlay the contour cut black block out vinyl on top?

ok let me restart. i need to do a backlit sign. it has a black background and black in the logo and the customer doesn't want the black to be lit up. if i print the whole thing on translucent vinyl will the black parts be lit up? i've done it this way before and it seems to light up a bit. so is the only other way to overlay black vinyl on top of teh printed translucent vinyl to achieve what im looking for?

all i was saying is reg. black vinyl is glossy, so would look wierd ... blockout vinyl UNDER your print in the areas that need blocked out is the way to go

when needed to blockout parts of digital prints or any trans. vinyl, I just add a contour-cut layer, in black/misc opaque vinyl/paint, on the backside of the panel to block the light from coming through.
