Changing finish with INK?

Has anyone ever tried to change the finish (Matte, Glossy, etc.) of a product with a solvent ink?

My customer requires a very low gloss rating for their product. The media I'm starting with is well within the spec, but when I print heavy areas of black, the gloss level goes too high. I'm trying to avoid using a topcoating if possible and changing media is pretty well out of the question.

Oh, and I'm running an HP Scitex Xl1500 using OEM XL300 inks.

Thanks in advance!

if the file is vector, change your black to a muted cmyk version of black, i'm thinking 65 c 65 y 65 m 75 k might do it, maybe even lower
