Creating Color profiles for monitors

I'm pretty savvy about creating ICC color profiles for printers using an i1...
but both times I tried to create a profile for my monitors, it looked muted
brown/yellow-ish and washed out, is that normal?

Hi :) From devices control panel, remove monitor icc profile and install srgb profile. Remove other color management tools too like adobe gamma, colorize, or any other tool you maybe tried. This way It Will look good in every application and not only in color managed ones, altough It wont be wide gamut unless you create again an icc with i1. It can be a problem with graphic card lookup tables too. Just make sure that color tables, bright and contrast curves are lineal in graphic card setup application
