Need Help Finding Approx shipping weight for quote

Goatshaver

Have a larger customer looking to get a shipping weight of a job I quoted them.

How do I go about calculating the price on 3000 decals on material I don't have for quoting?

How much square area of material are you using and what will the weight of the box/tube be ?? Call a Carrier or UPS and ask them.

About 872sq ft. But the weight would be different depending on the material. 3mil material would be much different than a 6mil material. If I had the materials I could just cut some out weigh it and figure out the weight with square area.
I just do a lot of small jobs so I have always included shipping with the price or if it was a large item I figured the price after it was finished.

Often times shipping can be calculated after the job has been quoted. I take it this is not a viable option here?

Call your material supplier and request the SHIPPING weight of a roll of the desired material in the approximate size(s)

54" x 50yrd = 675 SQFT
orafol 5650RA Reflective 54" x 50yrd
Service UPS Ground
Weight 60.30 LBS
24" x 50yrd = 300 SQFT
orafol 651 24" x 50yrd
Service UPS Ground
Weight 18.50 LBS

Look at one of your old orders, get the tracking number and the details will be listed on the carrier's website

I'm doing a wholesale order to a offset printing company and I think they want to know the weight because they will be shipping these to the end customer with other pieces of a job.

I think I can probably just get away without knowing, but it would be good for the future.

A 30 lb box with the same dimensions doesn't cost much more than a 50 lb box with the same dimensions... Most carriers cube the box size as the weight doesn't matter too much. So guestimate it..and add your margin to it.

We used to do a 25% from DHL - then we found another company that was half of DHls price.... Now we double the shipping cost, the customers paying less.... And we make more.

If we guestimate and we're off.... We'll never be off by double, so we never lose out. May not make much Proffitt if we're way off, but I can count the times on one hand in the past 3 years where we lost money on a shipment

I usually put shipping cost TBD on my quotes, if they insist on knowing I tell them that I'm going to make an educated guess, then add a healthy margin to cover me in case I'm wrong and they will pay less if they let me bill out actual cost at the time of shipment, but some companies need the shipping cost on their PO, and these companies end up paying 3 times the cost of shipping.
