After I type a word I would just click and see the binding box and move it to where I need it. Today I need find the line undet the word to move it. But if I make it a outline I can move it just fine. I know this sounds odd but I have no other way to explain it.. Or is my brain just fried

Do you have it masked or grouped with something else?

No if I just type a word on a blank page I sill have the problem. I have to click under the word to move it not the word it self.

I think I got it... I opened AI on a old laptop and matched all the setting in preferncess and there must have been something checked or no checked

sounds like you may have your type set as a superscript or have a baseline shift on it

    Show/hide Bounding box

It's a setting under the View menu - show or hide Bounding box
