Illustrator to Photoshop - keeping layers

Suppose I'm working on a design in Illustrator and decide that what I'm doing would be much easier in Photoshop. Is there a way to open the file in Photoshop and keep my layers?

I was told this is possible. Just havent figured out how yet. It sure would be handy tho.

Export as PSD - Click the resolution you want to export as click write layers then click OK.
